Koy Thomson, CEO of the London Cycling Campaign, will give this year's Annual Cycle Planning Research lecture on Thursday 23rd April at 8pm in Cultivate centre.

The title of the talk is "Making Cities Bicycle Friendly - Lessons from London for Dublin - Technical Fixes, Political Leadership or Vision. What Really Counts?"

2009 ANNUAL CYCLE PLANNING LECTURE: THU 23/APRIL, CULTIVATE CENTRE - KOY THOMSON, CEO, LONDON CYCLING CAMPAIGN

Mark Thu 23/April in your diaries as the date of the 2009 Annual Cycle Planning Lecture. The Dublin Cycling Campaign (DCC) has been very lucky to secure the commitment of the CEO of the London Cycling Campaign, Koy Thomson, to give this year's lecture. His talk will explore the ingredients used to prompt a huge shift in cycling numbers in London in recent years. The Annual Lecture is one of the flagship events organised by the DCC in its work to make Dublin a Bicycle Friendly City. Please do come along to what we expect will be a fabulous evening. Please pass the poster on to your own networks of cycling family and friends.

CEO of London Cycling Campaign to give Annual Lecture: Thursday 23rd April, 8pm, Cultivate Centre

Koy Thomson, CEO of the London Cycling Campaign, will give this year's Annual Cycle Planning Research Lecture. His talk will explore the factors underpinning the dramatic rise in cycling numbers in London in the last 5 years. Can it simply be explained by the congestion charge? Or the directly elected mayor with executive powers? Or by the increase in novice cyclists taking cycling training? Koy will explain all! It is now a tradition that members of the DCC go for dinner with the invited speaker prior to the event. Caterers will serve us at 6.30pm in the Cultivate hall itself. They specialise in tasty paella made from quality produce with vegetarian and chicken/spicy chorizo options available. The cost, including salads, is a very reasonable €12/person. To book a place at the meal, please email or text Damien (by 6pm on Monday 20th April): damodublin@hotmail.com / 087-2840799 indicating how many places you wish to book. After the lecture, we will take the speaker out in one of the local pubs. Again, everyone is welcome! The Cultivate venue is just next door to the new DCC meeting venue on Essex Street West.

Please support this event and bring your friends. Last year's Annual Lecture, given by Dr. John Parkin, attracted over 200 attendees and we are certain that this year's event will be much bigger. Arrive early to be guaranteed a seat. The venue has been given to us for free by the people at Cultivate in Temple Bar and the lecture will sit within their Convergence Festival – www.cultivate.ie A short film on "Getting Around", featuring several members of the Dublin Cycling Campaign, will be shown at 7.40pm. Free entry for both film and lecture.

Just bumping since the Engineers Ireland Dublin City Traffic Lecture I mentioned in my post below is on this week - and you don't have to attend in person to ask questions. It is taking place this Wednesday the 22nd April 2009 at 6:30pm. May be interesting for some of you on this forum. The event is webcast.
