Just a little rant about our recent bike robbery outside work.

We have them on camera and all, ' Oh yeah, look at em dere, wid der bolt cu''er' ...

They are on a spree here since last week. I am scared my bike won't last... much less bikes on the rack this morning.

    Bummer.
Might be worth bringing the wheel in with you?
Or maybe get another lock to throw on it?

Just remembered, you're on the Bowery... so no quick release.

I have the NY Kryptonite. I was going to go to argos during my break and get that ...

Now I have bike anxiety at work.

I would love to pack the frame of my bike with semtex and have a remote control for if it's ever nicked.

Personally, I'd go with something like this:

Could get a motion sensitive alarm yoke. Of course, it's more likely to be set off by others locking and unlocking their bikes than actual crims

    Or. Go high tech!

I think that's meant to be your teenage daughter.

What? You don't have one? Maybe you should have bought the tracker.

What sort of locks are they going through? I have two locks for my bike, an Abus Granit Steel-O-Flex 1000 (rear wheel & frame) and a Kryptonite Evolution mini (front wheel to frame, and sometimes around the post too, if I can fit it).

I bought a moderately expensive bike recently, and I'll be bringing it back to Dublin with me, but I'm paranoid about leaving it anywhere.

In fairness I told one of the guy ( a POB ) who works on my floor and he said ... 'oh no I better go lock my bike'.

Most of the stolen bikes were attached with simple cable locks. My bike is by far the priciest out there though, even though it's only a bowery...

Oh The Masi Bike! get a 3rd lock for it ... i might try and steal it myself.

Yeah thats it alright. I cleaned it up at the weekend so now its all gleaming and sparkly... even more of a thief magnet. But I'm tiring of riding around my clunky self-build all the time, riding the Masi is such a pleasure.

    lots-of-bicycle-locks.jpg

just lock your bike with loads of locks so its easier to steal bill from human resources bike who only used one cable lock....
the above bile would be actually be worth stealing for metal scrap value on the locks. also put a plastic bag over the saddle and other **** to make it look horrible when parked.

I'd love to see a bike locked like that on O'Connel St or Henry St etc - would be hilarious..

i am relatively new here and am not aware of whether i know people in real life yet. where abouts do you work? i work in ucd which is bike thief central. latest figures suggest that 4 bikes a day are stolen. i wouldn't be surprised if it's way more than that a lot of days. i do see people using disgracefully fragile locks around these parts.

i just bought one of the biggest thief magnets that there is and am wondering has anyone ever got a bike stolen when locked with kryptonites or the decent abus shackles? i have an evo mini with a cable and will probably invest in an abus granite too.

i find locking up outside the arts block is the best place, and not in the regular bike racks. maybe not close to where you work in the college. close to a smoking area would be good as well. i will keep a eye out for something shiny... :P

4 a day, jaysus, security is as bad as the porters of trinity...

a bianchi pista. obviously not the most valuable bike out there by a long shot, but it's very, very shiny!

I work in D15 - i am not going to drive to work to avoid my bike being stolen, I am only 2.5km away and there is no way I will use my feet for things like 'walking' or 'running', and No real commute means I am home quicker to switch bikes.

Bianchi Pista needs a GPS tracker for sure ... it's not a case of 'is it going to get stolen' ... but more of ' when is it to get stolen.' ... sad :(

Does anyone know how bad bike theft from Connolly station is and any of the Luas Red Lines.. :)

I've to start commuting (cycle) from Clontarf to The Black Horse at the end of May, so was going to cycle some of the way and get the Luas. (I only cycle 10/15mins to work at the moment, so will prob cycle further once I get fitter  )

Now my bike is no way an expensive one by any means.. its a simple Raleigh MB...but its mine and I want it to stay that way.

I have a Raleigh bike lock but I'm thinking of getting a NY Kryptonite lock. Will that be enough?!

Eh no Tribune about two years ago using figures they made up and attributed to an 'anonymous source'...That's not to say there isn't a good bit of theft though, it's seen as a fairly soft target for thieves I reckon. Get a proper shackle lock and you'll be grand.

I feel sorry for the owners of all the nice bikes I see in UCD locked up with crappy thin cable locks that can be popped open with a biro... Or all the QR wheels still locked to the racks with the rest of the bike gone... Madness.

Yep, there are a few Planet X's around UCD, one is in pink incidentally. I spotted your bike today actually.
