Well folks just thought I'd let you in on something I stumbled across this evening on the way home from work.

Tuned into FM104's phoneshow around 9.30(don't ask why) and there was a man on who mentioned that he wanted to sell tickets to a certain wrestling event in Dublin. Said he bought two tickets for 160 and eventually agreed with Adrian Kennedy and Jeremy(producer I think) that he would sell them on for 200. They seemed to think it was fine that he could make a bit of money off it. They put him in contact with a listener on air and were supportive of his blatant touting of these tickets.

I do recall them saying something along the lines of "these tickets are going for 400 on ebay, 200 isn't bad". Well I am(as I'm sure most of you are) of the opinion that touting is touting no matter how big or small the margins.

I would have thought that people working in the entertainment industry and even the music industry(using these terms VERY loosely with regards to the two men named above) would be completely against ticket touting but it appears not. Think I might bang an e-mail off later.

It seems FM104 supports ticket touting.

Shame we didnt get a heads up about this but then again I think the whole purpose of the show is to upset people into calling in so it could have been done with that in mind.

Hey Toast, it seemed to come up out of the blue. If they had let me on I would have definitely mentioned your site, which I am a member. Its sad that touting has just seemed to be accepted by a lot of people.

    supply and demand

Actually its closer to price fixing and you could almost say price gouging. Touts buying for the sole purpose of touting are creating an artificially lower supply and by demanding more for the tickets they create a market condition that pushes the price up.

People make parallels to investing in houses and antiques all the time but there is a lot of work involved in both of those occupations and a lot of value added. Touts don't add value.. if anything they remove it as you can't be sure you're not going to be ripped off. You also have to consider that none of these people pay taxes on their earnings and everytime someone has to pay twice as much for a gig it means theres another gig they can't go to which hurts the industry.

Ultimately tickets are "non-essentials" so its really down to a moral issue if you think this is just capitilism brought to a logical conclusion or something that should be regulated.

I'm not anti-capitilism but I do have issue with criminals exploiting people. Capitilism has already had its shot at the tickets and has set high enough price as it is without adding another layer of parisite to the equation.

Excellent. Exactly how long have you studied economics for?
