Damp smell from the attic!!

Folks..two years ago I renovated an older house circa 1940s....insulated using kingspan on all the external walls, insulated the attic using fibreglass and some kingspan. In the last couple of months have noticed a damp musty smell coming from the attic and in addition have noticed some spots of mold in the bedromm below the attic. Anyone got any advice about how to address this? I suspect the mould is due to excessive condensation which I am not sure what to do about as the room as a vent and is insulated with Kingspan..as for the attic,....really not sure where to start here! Any help appreciated!!:-)

to be honest i could be mistaken but it sounds like a ventilation problem. roof vents might solve it.

yes id agree it looks like a ventilation issue, this can cause serious damage to the structure of the building if left (rot). Along with installing roof vents you should also install eave vents or if they are in place already make sure they are not blocked up with insulation. Probably best to consult an engineer for detailed specific advice on sizing and number of vents:rolleyes:

Look at Section 2 of this

    http://www.environ.ie/en/Publications/DevelopmentandHousing/BuildingStandards/FileDownLoad,1647,en.pdf

The guidance there should be followed . The most common mistake made with attic insulation is crushing the fibre glass into the "nose" at the attic edge > and blocking the vent air into the attic
