    Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a sd sat /dtt combo receiver on the market.
I've seen some HD units (Technomate etc) but can't find any SD versions.
    Cheers.

If a box has a H.264 chip, they always make them HD models.(assuming you're talking about picking up Irish DTT)

    Thanks for that,
Is it a minimum requirement for Irish DTT that receivers carry a H.264 chip or can manufacturers supply an sd version?

Irish DTT is using MPEG4 / H.264 for video streams, both SD and any future HD channels. So yeah your reciever will need an MPEG4 chip to decode the signal.

A HD reciever will handle the Irish DTT SD streams no problem. You're unlikely to find an SD H.264 reciever because in most countries SD channels are MPEG2 and HD channels are H.264, so therefore there is little (no) market for a H.264 reciever that is limited to SD.

Irish DTT requires MPEG4 H.264. Manufacturers could build an SD box with MPEG4 H.264. They are not likely to do this though as they would not be much cheaper to build or sell.

    Once again many thanks,
I saw the specs. on the dvb website so it seems that initially the cost of dtt receivers are going to be considerably higher than for example the price of a freeview receiver.
