Well im soon to be a cash buyer with about 28-30k burning a hole in my pocket, however as usual a lot of the cars im looking at are a little out of reach, some up to the 34k mark.

so, qn im asking, how likely are dealers to entertain cash offers at 85% of their asking price, i know its a how long is a piece of string question but maybe someone from the dealer side or someone who has been shopping recently can tell me?

there are other cars which id like but i think are price way off, for example take this clk 55, prolly one of the most unsellable cars in ireland, however i would buy it, if the price were sensible

    however 30k for this: http://www.carzone.ie/search/Mercedes-Benz/CLK-Class/CLK-55-A/200911192113166/advert

when 03 m3 verts are selling for 23-25k is a bit rich

a neighbour of mine went to a local garage just after christmas, saw a 05 toyota avensis 20k on the windscreen, went into the salesman asked the price for straight cash sale was told 17k.The man offered 10k and the salesman laughed at him, then said 15k was the best he could do.the neighbour walked off and got into his car the salesman stoped him and said il take 12k for it, they dealt at 11k. So its plain to see the market is excellent for anyone making straight cash sales.

€20K was nuts money to be asking for a 2005 Avensis in the first place.

i was trying to haggle a dealer in the uk on a 330d recently, advertised at 7,995GBP and he wont budge lower than 7,495GBP with a full tank of diesel thrown in!

He told me that there is a shortage of used cars in the uk, especially diesels.

i would be expecting to get the merc for 25k cash, maybe 26k max if its really mint.
