Rubbing noise from brakes

    Hi All

99 Volvo s40, just want to get an opinion on what problem this is before bringing to garage

I'm getting a loud rubbing noise from back left wheel when I brake. Most noticeably at low speeds, (e.g 2nd gear). No problem with loose mud guard or anything like that I don't think.

What do you reckon is causing this problem ?

    Thanks

Have a look at the wheel arch, tyre could be rubbing off that, look for any marks under the arch. If you press down on that corner of the car is it soft, and can you hear the same rubbing noise? Hows she handle cornering and full lock, any other noises?

Possibly worn pads on that wheel?

Agree possibly worn pads. There is a layer put into the layers so it makes a noise as the pads get worn telling the driver they need replacing or sometimes they just make noise and it goes away again.
