Not sure if this has been asked before but im wondering at what age should you start your kids at a martial arts class?is there an age requirement like in boxing?
And what type of class do you go for?

    Thanks

Hi Raven. There was a thread on this not too long ago. It should have the answers to a lot of questions you might have.

I teach a childrens class, some are only four or five years old.
I teach simple basics, fitness and balance.
They also learn to escape situations and get out of holds etc, keep it simple and teach them discipline and respect.
This is my favourite and most challenging class because children are open, very honest and will not hold back from criticism.

I teach a children's class too and I have to say I love it!

We have a seperate class for four to six year olds thats catered specifically to them. Of course we teach a very careful cirriculum, mostly respect, fitness, co-ordination and balance, nothing they'll hurt themselves or others with.

I guess you can't really put an age on when to start a lot can depend on the child I think. Four is generally a good age the attention span of a child any younger just isn't long enough in my experience.

great thread , can I ask are there any classes that would take a 5 year old starting in Sep say. I'm am in the D4 area so anywhere between blackrock to Dublin 2 would be great.

    Hello,
I run YMAA Ireland (based in Newpark sports, Blackrock centre since 1984) with a specialised Kung Fu for kids program and an even more specialised 'Little cranes' class for 5 - 7 yr olds!

We run terms from Sept-Dec and Jan-June and will be moving into a fulltime premises in Deansgrange over the summer (if all goes to plan). We have a pretty extensive program as we stand but will be expanding the number of classes once we have kitted the place out.

Visit our website and check out the Kids club for more details and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

    Take care
