Was in American Golf yesterday and saw they were doing a deal on these, 2 dozen for €40.

I notice the cases has slight blemishes but nothing bad. Would they be useable on a round or would they be cr@p?

If you're buying balls to play with (not practice with) IMO your money would be better spent on something cheaper but good like a Srixon. There are softish non-Titleist balls at very reasonable prices you could get for something like the above price but they'd be blemish-less and probably a better buy.

I'm sure a good few of the Practice ProVs are fine but I'm sure that a few aren't and also, if you're playing in competition, I think there's a risk these balls can be non-conforming and technically you'd be in breach of the rules.

These are perfectly fine pro v1's and are superb value. (Only difference will be that they might be an older model)

They are different to Titleist X-Out balls which can have physical defects and not just cosmetic blemishes.

    They are also R&A approved.

I've bought a few boxes of these over the years. I normally use them through the winter months. Every pack normally has 6-7 balls which are pretty good with a few rubbish ones mixed in.

The balls have been used before, but it all depends what you want in a ball.

I'd imagine some people use them because they want to/think they should play a ProV1 but baulk at the price of the real thing.

I find them perfectly ok for a practice round and for the practice bag. But, like Sheet, i wouldn't use them in summer competitions where 0.1s were at stake.

I just think the benefits of playing a ProV1 are fairly small as it is and for me, these benefits would be completely offset by uncertainty if I was to tee up a defect. I don't play ones I find in competition either for the same reason.

I'm not saying my keen sense of feel and distance control demands only the most exquisite ball ;) I'm saying if you gave me 40 quid and told me to get as many decent balls as I could I wouldn't buy ProV Practice balls. I'd buy something like the Srixon AD333 or similar, even if it meant getting 18 balls instead of 24 or whatever. But the below seems to offer 2 dozen for around €40...

There actually perfect!Titleist lost a court case with i think top flight over the balls and instead of dumping all the provs they were told they could sell them at a reduced rate and put practise on them.Hence new prov out too.

Yeh, that's the ones. In that case, i'd go along with what Liam says! In fact, i've ordered a box myself to use in practice rounds.

Apologies, i thought you were referring to the used pro-v1s.

Nope, I understand. When I first saw them in the shop I thought they were used. All of mine are ProV1x and only minor marks on about 4 of them. The rest look perfect.

I only got mine for practice out the back garden but I was wondering if people actually play a round with them and if they find them any use.

I got 2 boxes of Practice Pro V1's for €50 euro in Halpenny. Have played with them and they seem exactly same as dearer version!

As thin2win said the balls are perfect in every way bar a slight cosmetic blemish, this may mean an over print or an under print, or even a slight ink mark out of place, they are Approved by both R&A and USGA for all compitition play. and for that kinda money its much better value than the Srixon AD333, which by comparision is a very low performance ball. :p

Anyone else notice how often threads on boards reflect conversations you've had in real life very very recently??

Was only chatting about these Pro V1 practise balls while waiting to tee off on a round of golf last Monday (I teed off twice, as it happens, but that's neither here nor there! :o )

Anyway, a member of my group said he was told by a pro he knows well that these Pro Vs are "95% perfect" - whatever we can deduct from that, I don't know but that was the claim anyway.

Incidentally, I have bought two boxes of Used Pro Vs online from premiergolfballs and have been very happy with both batches.

I bought a box of these form the pro-shop in Ardee for 24E this morning. The pro told me they are exactly the same as the normal prov's bar the logo may have been printed badly or the cover may be slightly discoloured. I examined all of them at home and this seems to be the case.....the havent been hit before, are not scuffed, and are not the repainted balls.

    Hi guys,

I always use Pro V1's but was fed up paying high prices/could not find any decent Irish sellers on ebay so I bought 3 dozen of these.

I have so far used 3 of them and they are spot on.

The only downside is you will get a mixture of model, like some will be pro v1 x and others just pro v1.

It is true about the court case loss, and apparently thats why the newer model is out, and even more expensive.

i recently got some practice pro v 1's and have found them good, though all i sued before that were the lake balls from argos.

i use the practice pro v 1's for practice and competitions

would many people here not use a high quality ball like a pro v if it had even a small scuff on it?

i nearly prefer using them, dont care if i lose them, hate the taught of belting a lovely new shiny pro v over the wall or into the water at like 5 euro a pop. always find loads of pro v's when i play anyways, prob from all the time looking for my ball that goes slightly off line
