A major earthquake ahs hit Italy this morning. Reports of buildings collapsing and numerous unconfirmed casualties.

    From BBC news:
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 has struck central Italy.

According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake struck at 0132 GMT about 95km (60 miles) north-east of the capital, Rome, at a depth of 10km.

There were no immediate reports of casualties, but Italian media reports suggested some buildings had collapsed in the city of L'Aquila.

The earthquake was also felt in Rome; the BBC correspondent there said he was woken up by the shaking.

Two smaller earthquakes struck the same region of Italy on Sunday but caused no damage.

Powerful earthquakes are relatively rare in Italy.

It was predicted by experts that a big quake was on the way, but were told to stfu or they would cause a panic.

Basically, somebody thought it was a better idea to let scores of people die instead.

They might aswell sit around all day scratching their ãrses if nobody is going to fûcking listen.

And the death toll will probably keep going up...

I was in L'Aquila last month, meeting my boyfriends' family, There was actually a small quake when I was there, nothing major, just a few pictures shaken from the walls. The family is all okay, but the sisters' house is gone, a few friends are missing.

And they took a bet that a major earthquake wouldn't follow - seems they bet wrong.

I saw a documentary advertised in one of my mother's tv mags yesterday all about why they can't forecast earthquakes. I can't find it in my mag though:(. Maybe I dreamt it up.

Honestly, I can't totally blamed who decided to not alert the people.

You can't predict the exact date neither the exact place..so what people were expected to do?? And how long?? And how can you predict which villages alert??
