Considering dumping my NTL subscription, and get a freeview satellite dish + box and a decoder.

These guys do a full installation package for €249 for the satellite, and stick up an aerial for another €149.

They give a 12 month guarantee (3 months free dish realignment excluding 60kph+ winds).

    Anyone heard of these people?

    Is this a good deal?

Any other companies offering this in Dublin.

    Any other suggestions?

I presume "freesat"? Freeview is the UK terrestrial system.

I Presume you mean satellite receiver or set-box. A Satellite costs Millions.

€149 sounds very expensive for an aerial installed at the same time.

Is it an official Freesat box included in the package?

I disagree Watty, this most likely includes stand off bracket, and 2 diplexer's

    It includes;

"Zone 2 Satellite Dish and LNB, Digital FTA Satellite Receiver, 20m of cable."

Ok, the FTA receiver will still allow you to view all the freesat channels but will not have interactive content or channel auto update. Would be worthwhile checking if the cable supplied is CAI spec also. Still good value having said that.

    Thanks Tony.

Can anybody tell me if these guys are reputable?

freesat.ie are doing a very similar package for €399 all in. The only difference is that it's a Grundig SD Official Freesat box, so you'd get the 7-day EPG, auto channel add and red-button interactivity too. Don't know about realignment guarantees. Also a lot to be said about buying the DIY package from the above, or from Tony @ satellite.ie and installing it yourself. Save money and impress your mates with your technical prowess. (Or budget for an HD box into the bargain)

Thanks mate. I'll check it out. The EPG etc may give it the edge.

Some things I do myself. Some things I don't. This one I don't, but appreciate the advice!

Hi 3Datamodem i'm not sure if its within regulations to answer your questions directly on the thread here if it isnt a mod can edit this post. Our customers have the choice of either the Freesat receiver with interactive features or a normal FTA if they are wanting to perhaps tune into alternative satellites at a future stage. The cable we use is CAI spec. Hope this helps

I was a total satellite newbie but after a little research (see Satellite.ie's website for a couple of handy videos on satellite installation), I put up my own dish, terrestrial aerial, ran cables, connected up amplifier for terrestrial signal and installed the satellite receivers all in about 4 hours. Don't be put off giving it a go yourself cause if you're even half way competent at DIY, you'll manage it. Oh, and my own satellite/terrestrial tv set up cost €300 which is a lot less than what you are considering paying. And of course, after a successful installation, you can then come back on here and brag about how brilliant you are - like me ;):D:D:D

I feel if it was really good they would be screaming it from the rooftops!

claytonie, can you tell us what items the aerial package includes (brackets, cables, multiplexers)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 251 ✭✭claytonie

    Hi Onikage

The installation includes all brackets and combiners as well as a masthead amp and PSU should it be required in marginal signal areas. The bracket used would vary depending on where the aerial is to be located e.g. Lashing kit for a chimney, etc. There is only an additional charge in Wicklow and other areas that require a VHF aerial in addition to the UHF aerial.

P.S. I never thought of screaming from the rooftops but I'll give it a bash next time i'm up a chimney hopefully they wont put me in an institute :D

    Thanks for input folks.

I'm going for the SD freesat in one room and an aerial in two rooms for the Irish stuff.

€434 all in... being installed tomorrow.

Very happy to be shot of NTL.

Sounds like a good deal, might be worth a little extra to get diplexer and combine a sat feed into the other rooms, that way you could move your sd box into them and get a hd box for the main tv in the future.

    Job done.

Dish is at the rear of house so no visible from road (wife happy).

Aerial is in attic :) and powered too - reception in both rooms is excellent (did a direct comparison with soon-to-be-disconnected NTL analogue and digital and it's a lot better).

Cabling seems to have been well done; my requirements were a bit awkward due to shape of house and furniture placement, but they got the job done.

Grundig box is small, all the channels are bang on. EPG works a treat. Red button works a treat. The chap kindly wired it through my existing HDD-DVD recorder.

All in all, good value to me for €434.
