Can I apply for driving test more than once?

When applying for the test, could I, for example, apply to Raheny, Finglas and Rathgar all as separate applications so if I failed I wouldn't have to apply again and wait so long- I'd just do it in the other centre?
Considering the test waiting times it seems like it could be a good idea if possible..

I'd say it's best to check with the RSA. The waiting times aren't that long now though, about six months max. And most people are passing, I only heard of one person failing since SGS took over and she passed next time.

While the % of people passing may have increased over the past few years, the pass rate is about 60% countrywide, so most people aren't passing. SGS are closing this Friday so all future tests will be conducted by the RSA.

Well mine was in Tallaght and it was six months, lucky guess that I assumed that was the upper end.

Yes you can apply as many times as you want. I knew a guy who had 3 tests in one week in the same test centre (with sgs). failed the first and passed the second after lunch. And didnt care about losing the fee for the third. Which was 2 days later

But you can also claim your fee back once its outside the 10 day time limit

The new fee of €75 a test would make this a less appealing option I'd say.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

    So, to clarify:

I could apply to every test center in the Limerick/Clare/Tipperary area each time with an employers note. Paying one fee each time, and then as soon as I pass a test, assuming the next test I am allocated is more than 11 days away, cancel the remaining tests and get my money back.

I'd wager I could get a test within two weeks if I called every day to ask if they had any cancellations.

So even if my complaint is rejected I might not be completely screwed.

    Or have I misunderstood?

I think thats the essence of it, yes.

But make sure you put "will take test at short notice or 24 hours notice or something along those lines and then call the RSA the next day and ensure that it has been transcribed into the computer system. You cant trust the RSA to do anything correctly, much less their jobs

Dont be rude but dont let them screw you around either.

And, if you are calling from a mobile the 096 number is cheaper than the 1890.

Hate to burst your bubble, but apparently, there is a rule with the RSA that you must have a month in between tests. I know of a guy who had your theory that if they applied for the test a couple of times they wouldn't have to wait so long in between tests if they failed. Unfortunately for him, the RSA cancelled his tests when they discovered what he had done and spread them out so there was a month to 6 weeks in between each test. Also I wouldn't be too sure they will refund your money from the remaining tests, if you do pass.....

Would you not be wiser to put all the excess money towards a couple of lessons with an ADI driving instructor and ensure pass it the first time round?

Best of luck never the less!

Was on the phone to the RSA today and asked them about this. Apparently thats why they have the stuff about driver no. on the new application system.

And the thing about a month isnt true. The bloke on the other end of the phone said that I could probably get a test in a week with an employers notice and a willingness to thake a test @ 24 hours notice
