Yellow box junctions

I know the rule for yellow box junctions in that you cannot enter the yellow box unless you can clear it without stopping with the exception of turning right so long as you're not blocking anyone.

Say for example i'm driving on the main road and i'm approaching a crossroads with a yellow box junction on the road. So i see ahead that traffic is moving slowing. I feel that i clear it without stopping so i enter the yellow box. But what would happen if for example there is a motorist on the road on the left and decides that he doesn't want to drive behind a learner and pulls out in front of you and takes your space ahead. You're going to have to stop.

If you had entered the junction and were continuing through, even if there was heavy traffic, a car deciding to dangerously pull out infront of you would mean they were at fault. If however the car coming from you left enters the junction before you reach/enter the junction, you would have to stop. As not stopping would result in you blocking the junction. It's not something i have come across, both while learning and fully licensed.
I wouldn't worry about freak situations like that OP, there are plenty of other things to concentrate on. Best of luck with your driving.

LOL - have so been there and ended up with a €60.00 ticket for it.

some fecker cut me up, took my place, left me in the yellow box cue motor cycle traffic cop and me being down €60.00, tried to tell him that i have half across when the car in front cut across a lane and got in front of me. he told me there was nothing he could about it that i was clearly in the wrong and not the car in front :rolleyes:

it happens all the time in dublin city, you have to zoom across those yellow box dont be taking your time

If your in a yellow box when you should not be then its your fault im afraid in legal terms. If you think that you may not make it because of someone crossing in front of you or not enough room etc. just wait a couple of seconds. till the traffic clears slightly. 30 seconds extra beats 60 euros and the heart ache!:)

I completely disagree. If there is enough room for one car at the other side of the junction, you take off into the space and some muppet speeds past you and cuts you up, there is really isn't anything you can do tbh

I drive in a city and where the junctions are huge. The junction I was caught in, you could probably fit 10 cars in so there is plenty of room for people to cut you up.

i was only a young driver at the time, i will tell now, no-one will do that to me again, i

You can never plan for everything. Hence accidents! I know what your saying but when i see a narrow space at a yellow box i tend to not cross it. Whats the advantage to crossing it anyway? You have the right of way if your on the road anyway.... Ones controlled by traffic lights are a completely different ball game though.
