Well given that 55% (poll in the Sunday Independent) expect serious civil unrest, things could get pretty dodgy fairly quick in the next few weeks.
The unemployed will have nothing else to do but protest!
Many of those new unemployed (and some older unemployed) are worried about not being able to meet their mortgage payments alone, never mind other bills.
So cuts in the welfare payments could be a double-edged sword.

Time will tell...

As long as people don't think that Ireland will just blow up after this budget, I think we'll be fine. While they will be introducing tax increases, they should try and make it a spending budget..as in getting people and businesses to spend.

I'd love to see the Services VAT Rate and Goods VAT Rate harmonised at 17% but it's doubtful that'd happen...if it did though, I could see people spending a lot more.

• the budget will be a proxy-solution and it's main objective will be to entice outside investment.
  
• the unemployed, old and disabled won't be affected.. why risk further unrest?
  
• Excise will increase by 7%, it would be more if "the nor" wasn't there.
  
• Overall Public Spending down by 2%, really 4-5% before national debt is addressed.
