Best guage of effort during brick session runs

Managed my first brick session of this year this morning - 40 K on the bike and then a 6K run straight after. Great to rediscover the joys of running with no feeling in your legs!

How is the best way to target your effort level during the run? HR? Pace? or cadence? Coming off the bike I figure that your pace may be hard to judge and that your heart rate could be higher than during a normal run so I figured that keeping my cadence between 90 and 95 would be the best way to maintain my effort? Anyboday have any opinions on this one?

    Thanks

done something similiar this weekend too - first 20km cycle\5km run. Great to have that rubber leg feeling again...

I would have thought that HR zone would be the best option for measuing effort - trying to keep it in zone 3 according to http://www.fitzones.com/members/Fitness/heartrate_zones.asp seems like the way to go, but for me that seems to be running at a stand still...

    Thanks SucCes09,

Had a look at my HR rates from yesterday in comparison to the desired zones - looks like I was working to around my aerobic threshold, which is good cos that's what it felt like! Felt like I was moving along Ok but if I was to stick to working in a lower zone I'd feel like I was crawling along. I've always struggled to work at lower intensities, even when I make a concentrated effort to do so.

Most people avoid the "lower intensity stuff" as its slow and not as much fun.

Doesn't mean its not more effective...........

    Thanks Tunney,

Any tips for maintaining your discipline during low intensity workouts?
