Alternative to Canon 5D with 17-40mm lens?

    Hello

There is a photographer I like who uses a Canon 5D with 17-40mm lens. As I'd like to practice taking shots like he does, ideally I would like to buy this camera and lens. But that'd set me back a few thousand, so I'm looking to purchase a cheaper alternative (less than €1k in total) which would be a close match.

Can anyone recommend the camera I should buy?

    Thanks.

A canon 40D with a 10-22mm lens? That would be fairly close in focal length.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I will check out those cameras.

    His photography is like this:

Also if you stretch abit,or are willing to travel you could possibly get a 5D with that budget and a 17-40 for 300-400

Surely you could take a photo like that with any SLR and a wide angle.

You could pick up a Sigma 10 20 for around 260/270 used.

my money would be on a 40D with a 10-22mm lens.

40D isn't as expensive as the 5D, and will hold it's resale value if you decide to upgrade to the 5D further down the line.

    I'd also go with a 40D with a 10-22mm lens. I currently use a 5D with a 16-35 and I love it!
