ANSI sized piping or an equivalent

    Hi guys,

Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong place, but I figured that this would probably be the only forum where people would know what either the ASNI are or what Schedule 40 sized piping is.

Anywho, I'm trying to build a set of parallettes (smaller version of the parallel bars in gymnastics) for training and I've hit a snag. I'm trying to build them out of PVC but the size of piping that we have here is too small to support my weight. What I need is 1-1/2 Schedule 40 sized PVC, that means a pipe with the following specs:

    Outside Diameter: 1.90"
    Inside Diameter: 1.60"
    Wall Thickness: 0.15"

As you can see it is a fair bit thicker than your standard PVC waste pipe and so far I've not been able to source it anywhere here in Ireland. Any plumbing supplier that I've gone to hasn't even heard of it. It's fairly common stuff in America but seemingly unheard of here.

Does anybody know of any engineering company that does this stuff or of an equivalent european standard or size?

    Cheers,
    Bobby.

Try BSS pipeline supplies they have branches in Cork and Dublin . They should have that sort of stuff have a look on their site I think it is called durapipe its available in both PVC and ABS plastic. They also should have the special glue for putting it together PVC uses a different glue from ABS be sure you get the right stuff

You need to use PVC cement for PVC apposed to glue.

You are correct with your sizes above for 1-1/2" Sch 40. I usually use this page for reference http://pipingdesigners.com/downloads/pipechart.htm

You could try getting DN 40 piping which is the German Standard equivalent of 1.5" but im not too sure of the wall thickness.

ANSI is simply the American National Standards Institute the American equivalent of ISO or NSAI.
