Government seems to be going for "scorched earth" policy to wreck economy

From what I am reading about the budget and the tax rises on the way, I think the government seems to be trying to kill off any remaining economic activity. Raising taxes now is like pouring wet cement onto the Irish economy, or like throwing freesing water over someone suffering from hypothermia. Its going to cost tens of thousands of jobs, and send Ireland into a deep depression which will take decades to recover from. I wonder if the current muppets know they will be out of office for a generation or two and are just trying to leave as big a mess as possible for any new government to sort out.

There are more than enough threads on this already, nor is this forum a blog.
