Two of The Sunday Game's most formidable analysts, Pat Spillane and Ger Loughnane are to make a return to the panel this year.

Spillane returns to the football panel having presented The Sunday Game for the last four years, while Ger returns to the hurling panel after a two-year absence during which he managed the Galway senior team.

Loughnane and Spillane will also be contributing to RTÉ's GAA output on RTÉ Radio 1 and RTÉ.ie throughout the Championship.

Full details on RTÉ's Championship coverage will be announced next month and the new presenter of The Sunday Game will be announced in the coming week.

This is the best news to come out of RTE since Pat Kenny resigned :D Wonder whose going to be the replacement?

fantastic- more crazy like "puke football" rants and no more staying on the fence stuff. ah he did a good job as a presenter, even in the hurling side of things, funny seeing the hurling analysts trying to take the pi** out of him. great stuff though. suppose someone like joanne cantwell might take over, or maybe darragh "mr busy" maloney might take over. preferably, give michael lyster the job if he wants it

This has happened 2 years too late. I don't care about Loughnane anymore but Pat always had something great to say.

I hope Tony Davis gets the sack

How about Dara O Cinneide? I'd say he could do a good job.All he needs is to speak a bit higher and he'd be a great presenter.

Would probably be the best choice, but of course logic does not necessarily apply in these cases. This is RTE :D

I'd agree, Loughnane is just full of hot air at this stage. Pat is always a bit of crack and not always wrong in his analysis either. It will be more entertaining with him on the other side of the desk.

Tony Davis isn't the worst, personally the one I'd get rid of is Tommy Lyons. A very poor analyst.

Why not seperate hosts for hurling and football? I mean, they already have seperate analysts, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Any debate or talk regarding both codes can be co-hosted.

I just really hope they don't do what they did the last time and bring in a football man and just assume he can do hurling justice in his hosting as well.

    Spillane and Brolly- Legend!

Pat Short:). It has to be.

Ah no. Has to be Dara O' Cinneide. Lovely speaker and good image. As for the co hosts, the 3 lady presenters Pat Kenny had on Late Late a few weeks ago Joanne Cantwell, Sioban Madigan and ??? Hurley. They were excellent with plenty of flair, but sure Pat....... say no more.

Spillane is good for a bit of crack and we will get the best out of him when he is off the Chair. Joe Brolly, Sean Boylan and I would love to see someone like Declan Browne or Kevin O'Brin being given a shot. Dont like any of the Hurling panel so I dont see why they have to stick with Pete Finnerty, Loughnane and Farrell, all quite boring. Donal O'Grady was good. Maybe Joe Dooley or Gerald McCarthy now he has a bit of time on his hands:)

The hurling panel lost their best analyst in Anthony Daly last year IMO. Him and Cyril Farrell made a great combination.

I wouldn't really agree with the need for a different analyst for the football and hurling segments - surely there's a few people out there with enough knowledge of both codes not to make a pig's ear of it. The host's job is simply to ask the questions and facilitate the analysts rather than do any analysis himself so you don't really need to be a diehard in either code.

Dara O'Cinnéide would be my vote for this post as well, unless Michael Lyster is open to it. I think as an analyst he's a bit too inclined to be understated - I like people to ruffle feathers tbh. A straight swap between he and Spillane is exactly what the doctor ordered for this show imo.

Wouldn't be too enthused at that news - I don't particularly care for him as a presenter tbh...
