Just noticed an on screen thing saying "1 Day to go for Comedy Central". Are they just re branding or is it a total change of Chanel ?

I'm on NTL cable and I don't have Comedy Central. About three days ago Paramount Comedy turned off and I thought it would be replaced today by CC today. According to it's website it launched it 9pm but I still can't get it. I've tried a manual tune but I still can't find it.

    Any ideas?

Turn you box off at the mains and restart it.

Mine is fine here in Dublin.

Oh you should ring UPC on 1908 then.

    Too late tonight.

Unforeseen repercussions have occurred with the rebrand. I recorded the entire 1st and 2nd series of The Office (US) from Paramount on the DVR. Went to watch some of it today - no go. Due to the rebrand the system no longer recognises the channel and says "You are trying to watch a programme from a channel to which you are no longer subscribed" Please call customer services" So I did - very long story short, the recordings are gone and can no longer be accessed. Dammit!!

Apparently, nobody at UPC copped that a channel name change would mean anything recorded on their DVR could not be accessed any more. I'm reluctant to delete the lot in case they issue a fix for this but am I hoping against hope here?

Same thing happened back in January when Channel 6 became 3e, IIRC, except I think they warned DVR users about that one.

Thanks, BeerNut. Reckon it's gone then. If I'd known this was going to happen I'd have dug out the ol' VCR from storage. :(

Aye, this happens every time a station rebrands, I've lost several recordings this way. UPC can't / won't fix it.

Its a real pity they don't show Cheers as that stands up really well and had IMO stronger writing than Frasier which tends to have the same storyline for every episode.

Thanks, iMax! Oh, that's brill - cheers. I'm going to get that. I will admit to being a previous US Office snob but I've been converted and got over myself.

Thanks, abraxas, for the UPC link. I never saw that. Nothing for it but to delete 'em then. Wish they'd sort out little things like this. I would never have thought a hard disk recorder needed the actual channel to view recordings. Am curious now - if NTL is off the air (let's face it - not an infrequent occurrence) can you still watch your recordings?

This is the part I didnt understand either... My areas cable was upgraded a few weeks ago and as a result I had no signal for 3 hours. However I was still able to watch all the recordings on the box.

Maybe pulling out the cable at the back will allow you to watch recordings from paramount... I doubt it will but you never know with UPC.

Now they've changed the name on the EPG again, to simply "Comedy" and "Comedy Extra". "Comedy Central Extra" was too long to fit on the display but not sure why the changed "Comedy Central".

They did a similar thing when Channel 6 became 3e... I remember that day seeing it change numerous times from E3, 3e,e3, TV3E,TV3e, until finally stopping at 3e!!

Its not hard...but they seem to find it difficult. This re-brand has been coming a while, they could have checked that the name would fit before changing it but they didn't, so now instead anyone with recordings from yesterday will not be able to watch them as the box will think its no longer subscribed.

I liked UPC before because I honestly thought with all the investment they are making we would see a better service and company overall...but lately the old problems from the NTL and Chorus days are starting to appear again.

Drat - I should've tried that before I deleted the recordings. Amn't too bothered about it now 'cause I bought the DVDs but the point remains - we've got about 50% of stuff stored on the DVR now so I really hope there won't be any more helpful rebrands. Hope to Christ RTÉ2 doesn't change again - all the six nations stuff will go.

This seems like such a stupid thing to have installed on a DVR. Just becasue the channel names don't match, it won't play? Or, what would happen if you had Sky Movies for a year and then unsubscribed. Would you be able to watch the films you recorded then?

Thats not what it says, they were quoting the onscreen message that you will get if you try to watch the recorded programme.

You have no choice but to delete it.

Nope... You need an active subscription to whatever channel you recorded from. UPC as well as SKY I'm afraid...
