yesterday on the radio they give out the ****ing result of some **** spl match, and not even a mention that wolfsburg beat bayern munich 5-1.

on top of that, everyone supports non-irish teams(most of the time english) in a real fabricated 'loyal' way, instead of supporting their own teams.

then for the champions league our national broadcaster should not be biased and secure rights for the best match of the round but instead show liverpool vs chelsea. ****ing yawn like.

    ya know?

I'm tired of this League of Ireland is shi'te, GAA is at fault, go go Chelsea, Liv-aaa-pool, anyone for the last few choc-ices now argument.

What your saying is simply untrue. It's not the job of RTE sport to be unbiased. Especially when it comes to Champions league soccer. They must provide the best possible service to the their customers and there's a lot more customers interested in watching Liverpool V Chelsea then the other game.

I think your mixing up RTE Sport with RTE News. Of course RTE News must be unbiased with it's coverage but it's not the same for sport.

It might be a little different when it comes to GAA, but i still don't expect RTE to show Louth V London instead of Dublin V Kerry just in order to be unbiased. It's simply no way to run a TV station.

lol the bundesliga is better than the english league. i much prefer to know what is happening there rather than ****ing glasgow celtics latest hundred goal victory against some ****e scottish team.

AND BTW barstoolers support your local team.

*by better i mean more exciting..its a better spectacle*

its not our league so really it should have the same coverage as any other 'foreign' league.

*and btw i love the english league as well as LOI, la liga bundesliga, i especially man city like because they have 3 irish players and i want them to win uefa cup*

    Awful thread.

Not every county in Ireland has a League of Ireland team and there is no law stating that one must support their local team instead of a foreign team.

And as for your gripe about RTE not listing the Bundesliga results, check it online ffs and stop whinging.

And FYI, Liverpool v Chelsea was the tie of the round. Non stop, end to end action from start to finish.

completely agree - why don't these guys emigrate to the UK, and those of us actually interested in our country will put our energy into it, and speak our own language

Here there's a lot more to loving your country than chanting a few rahead anthems and sitting around watching ****e sport.

Ya see, this is what distinguishes the Beautiful Game from other sports in Ireland. It is not about the 'County', it is about a team you can associate with. There is no law (don't get me started on the Gah), it is about what is in your heart. If it is not there, you cannot force it

who gives a **** what happens in england?

The majority of soccer fans in this country. It's all about supply and demand. There is far more interest in the English league than the German league, I would have thought that was obvious.

true id much rather be told about one of europes elite teams be demolished 5-1 than hear about celtic and rangers easily beating these mickey mouse teams week in week out...

exactly, today i heard some result between falkirk and some other team, like who really cares about that? maby some of the very few 'real' celtic fans but they are very very rare in this country. celtic are to ireland as the ny yankees are to the world. a brand, which in the case of most irish celtic fans is supposed to portray a sense of pathetic plastic nationalism.

The yankees aren't supposed to potray nationalism, or anything like that...

I'm proud to follow Dublin in GAA or Ireland and Lenstier in Rugby but when it comes to football (real fans never call is soccer) give me the Premiership which is the best league in the world any day!

My No.1 passion in life if football and I have played football all my life, now when I want to watch the most popular sport in the world I want to watch the beautiful game played at it's BEST which is why I love the Premiership, sometimes La Liga and love international football.

I'm also a Pats fan, I've been to a few games and will go to more games BUT for me watching tomorrows Manu v Barcelona match is 1000 TIMES better than any League of Ireland football match could ever possibly be. Also if you actually go to LOI matches you'll notice it's full of people who also support the Premiership simply because they enjoy watching football been played by real Professionals who have the capability of playing wonderful football
(The Manu v Liverpool rivalry is about a million times greater than any LOI rivalry...who will win the all important 19th title?...think of the superb history of both clubs...how could the LOI possibly compete with that?...simple THEY CANT!)

Have you seen Brazil play? Now compare watching Brazil play to watching Shamrock rovers v Bohs...the difference in QUALITY is HUGE!!!! That's what I'm talking about.

Now I know the average Premiership game is way behind looking at Brazil but I'm sure you get my point. Look at the glorious Spanish league, truely beautiful football...watching LOI football is boreing in comparison!

I'd recommend people go to LOI matches simple because watching a match live is always better then watching on telly and the banter and atmosphere is brilliant and it's a great friday night out. What I'm saying though is I like LOI football but the STANDARD OF FOOTBALL is RUBBISH compared to the English or Spanish league!

Yes my no.1 team is in England but I'm trying to get passionate about Pats as their my local team and I think more people should give LOI a chance but it's hard to do when the FAI are useless, the govenment can't be bothered giving it any proper funding and most of the clubs are in debt.

The main reason people watch football is for entertainment value and not because of where they were born. Now only the biggest idiots in the world would slate someone for following English football and for those who disagree I'd ask why do you watch American films and foreign TV stations? Why do you listen to music thats not Irish? Because even though Irelands the greatest country in the world to live in their are many things that are done far better outside Ireland. and one of them is football!

Ya, Dan Martin finished 2nd on the Volta a Catalunya and I didnt hear a mention of it.Nicholas Roche also put in good performances during the tour. They were up against some big riders in this race aswell.

Phillip Deignan had a 5th place finish in the Giro D'Italia a few stages back and there was no mention of it either.

No point having a thread in sport, where only soccer gets talked about.

Well I'm sure you've realised by now that the number of people that follow cycling is absolutely tiny compared to Football, GAA and Rugby!

Seems like far away hills are greener. If you're interested only in sport abroad, then that's no prob. Just look at Sky Sports, EuroSport etc.

Thats because we arent winning at it. Its support was through the roof when Kelly and Roche were challenging for the Tour De France. We are a bandwagon nation.

Rovers did not set the ticket price. The game is being organised by PR firm Platinum One. Rovers get a flat appearance fee, P1 take the gate.

Platinum One are out to make as much money as possible, so a 60 euro entrance fee into such a small stadium was entirely predictable.

The game is now sold out btw, so it seems P1 were correct in their assumptions that people would pay it.

Rovers have half season tickets available for you and your kids: 2 adults & 2 kids for just 250 (thats less than 14 euro per game for the whole family) or 1 adults and 3 kids for 185 (around ten euro per game for the whole family). So plenty of value is to be had at Rovers.

Get a season ticket and bring your kids every week instead of just to a once off like this friendly, theyll get more enjoyment from regularly supporting the team.
