Roadworks at Murrough

Please can anybody tell me what on earth is going on near Wicklow railway station? Vast roadworks, bridges etc are being erected in an area which I would have thought should have some sort of preservation order on it? I travel through the area on the train and the scale of the work seems to increase every time I pass. Also…

Also why is the industrial estate sprawling further and further north along the Murrough? Broad Lough will soon encroached upon.

They're works for the Wicklow town and port relief road.
