After just turning 18, I must say, I'm disappointed!

Did anyone else expect life and everything else to be finally explained at 18, it being a big big secret? Almost like before ya find out that santy isnt real!

Or perhaps, does anyone want to fill me in on the aul secret of life there?:p

No I expected there to be lot's of legal drinking and entry to nightclubs when I turned 18, life for me was never really the issue and I never needed to be explained, I always knew what life is. A whole pile a dogs*it and nothing else, unless you're one of those positive people, or people who prepare a list of things to do before they die. I actually might try that things to do before I die thing.

    BTW. Happy Birthday :D

What did you expect? Did you think your brain power was set to improve dramatically exactly 6570 days into your life?

Personally, I thought being 18 was exactly the same as being 17, and being 19 was the same as 18, etc.

The funny thing is when you look back at your teenage years you think OMG I am so much more mature now then I was back in the day. You will do the same at 21, and 25 ish (when you realise you're on the way to 30).

I'm 27 and comparing myself to when I was 18, there is a huge difference. I'm far more confident, relaxed and I don't feel like a **** up anymore.

You have a whole load more growing up to do. The way I see it is at 18 you get the license, but it still takes a few more years experience.

Life is like a box of chocolates. Even if you know what you want by the time you get there some other ****er has eaten all the good ones. Eventually you learn to settle.

I found turning 18 a total anticlimax too!! Same with turning 21, no different! I've currently got my fingers crossed that 30 will bring something epic, but I've got 6 and 1/2 years to wait :)

18 is fine, no big deal, but fine. But god did I feel old when I turned 19 and 20. Eighteen is very hyped up though, ridiculous really

I'm too lazy to read the thread.

The secret to life after 18?

You are officially and legally responsible for all of your actions. You get to do less of what you want and more of what you have to do.

    welcome to life.

Your a year to late OP .This song was written for 17 year olds

    At 17 Jani Ian

I learned the truth at seventeen
That love was meant for beauty queens
and high school girls with clear skinned smiles
who married young and then retired
    The valentines I never knew
The Friday night charades of youth
were spent on one more beautiful
At seventeen I learned the truth

We all play the game, and when we dare
    we cheat ourselves at solitaire
    Inventing lovers on the phone
    Repenting other lives unknown
that call and say – Come dance with me
    and murmur vague obscenities
at ugly girls like me, at seventeen :D

The most annoying thing for me was headed up to the club you always got turned away from for having no ID and being underage, having your ID in hand expecting a glorious moment, and the bouncer says "Go on ahead there" without even looking at your ID.You feel going back and asking him is he sure!

No fanfare when you turned 18? Mine was uneventful too, other than the fireworks, 18 gun salute, parade, fire started by all the candles on the cake that almost burned down Dub, and binge drinking party.

When I turned 18 I realised the jig was up, no more trying to have sex with young girls........the teenage years were a real waste, though I did try a lot. What more could I ask of the little me......he never stood a chance with all those media influences telling girls they're sluts if they have casual sex before they're 18.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 381 ✭✭GlasnevinRed

For me the main difference between being 17 and 18 is obviously being old enough to (legally) drink but that's it. Then you turn 19 and begin to feel really old.:D
