Swimwear for the bigger lady?

    Hi guys,
Have a holiday planned for July to Italy with my bf of 9 months and am anxious as I'm a size 16/18 and cringe when I think of myself in swimwear! Last time I was in a swimming suit or anything so skimpy in public was when I was 12 and am now 23! I only have about 8 weeks or so to lose weight and to be honest, there aren't going to be any miraculous transformations [now matter how much wishful thinking I do!] so will just have to be "happy" with what I have.

Just wondering, what's suitable? I can't imagine getting into a pool surrounded by slim tanned ladies. I want him to find me attractive. Yes he's seen me naked but I'm still self conscious. Was looking at Victoria's Secret website and saw a few pieces [such as ones with a kinda skirt thingy at the bottom] that I thought might be a good idea. http://www2.victoriassecret.com/collection/index.cfm?&rfnbr=158&cgname=OSSWMOPSZZZ&cgnbr=OSSWMOPSZZZ&page=1
Please help. Don't want to be a completely ugly frump on hols :(

first of all try not to be self-conscious...especially on hols!
think the best place for swimwear for "normal-sized" women is m&s, they have great support in their tops and you could wear a sarong if you felt uncomfortable.
don't know if they have much of a selection this time of year though, give it a look though!
    enjoy the hols!

Very pricey yeah! That's the one I was looking at too! I guess I need something that'll tuck me in. Am going to be very uncomfortable. Shameful as I'll never see myself in a bikini [damage is done - stretch marks :(]

Asos have some lovely swimwear at the moment. They have a few of the 1950's style swimsuits too which are really flattering on.

    Asos 50's Style Swimsuit

That one in particular seems to be structured and would nip you in at the waist too, also has the sorta skirty detail for extra coverage. :)

Dunnes are currently doing nice black ones that hold you in.

That's very pretty, but very expensive. Don't think I could justify spending that much for a swimsuit for a week! :(

I know :( It's just so.... pretty :(. There are a few other ones for less that are nice too though :)

There's some nice stuff on figleaves.com too, worth checking out.

Hey I have been in this situation too...oyu think it looks lovely until you see what everyone else is wearing. I have a freya one and its lovely, it was expensive but they seemed to have come down in price.

    check out http://www.intimate-linger.ie/
they have some really nice ones and I think something similar to the victoria secret one that you were looking at.

Have a look at Bravissimo - I buy underwear from them and find them quite good.

Thanks so much etho for that actually. Just had a look. They're very sexy :) Doesn't say what S/M/L/XL is though.... may just chance ordering one and see :) They're lovely

Do Penneys do swinwear, I'd go for the cheapest thing possible, one piece if you are very self conscious though no ones going to be looking at you, some of the prices above are mad - 180 sterling for a swimsuit - daylight robbery, I'd be looking for a suit at that price :)

I was in M&S yesterday and they had some really nice ones for around €45 and lots of nice accessories. If I were you I would go in and try on lots of them and get an idea what suits you before you order online.
