    1. Cloudy Lane – Had his chance last year where for me he appeared not to stay. He is a sound jumper and I’m sure will get round but in his own time as he has far too much weight this time around and doesn’t have the frame to carry it.

    2. Chelsea Harbour – Another whose best chance of winning the race was last year, too much weight and I’m still not convinced of his jumping.

    3. Snowy Morning – Another who had his best chance last year as he has been anchored by the handicapper this time around. He also comes into the race in worse form than last time around. His jumping was a concern last year as it is this but maybe the return to Aintree might spark a revival, but I doubt it.

    4. Knowhere – Where he is likely to finish, might not stay and another whose jumping I’m not convinced about.

    5. Comply Or Die – Last years winner who ran much better last time out. Compared to some of those around him he looks very well handicapped and I think he could easily hit the frame but fall just short in his bid to record back to back wins in the race.

    6. Ollie Magern – I fully expect this fella to bowl along and maybe take them along most of the first circuit and out into the country and give his supporters a decent run to there, that is where his stamina will ebb away and he is a better horse when fresh.

    7. Stan – Stamina limitations for him, he looks very badly handicapped and he has had a very long hard season.

    8. Black Apalachi – Promises to stay and acts round here as he showed when winning the Becher Chase when he jumped brilliantly, but the ground is a major concern for him as he likes it soft.

    9. Hear The Echo – Irish National winner who has been trained for the race and comes here relatively fresh. Could easily run into the frame but the fact he carries over 11 stone is a major concern for me.

    10. Priests Leap – Dual Thyestes winner who promises to stay the trip and get round, but probably in his own time and he is another who I’m sure will find the ground too lively.

    11. My Will – Gold Cup fifth who is undoubtedly well in here and the fact that Ruby Walsh rides him is a massive plus as he could have ridden a few others if he wanted. That said he for me is very risky for a few reasons he has had his problems and been of the track for some time at the start of the season, I don’t think he is a guaranteed stayer, his best form is when there is some give in the ground and most importantly his tendency to hit the odd fence is a massive concern I’m not convinced he will get round.

    12. Eurotrek – Another who has had his problems but he is getting on and the handicapper hasn’t given him much of a chance.

    13. State Of Play – Former Henessey winner who goes well fresh and will love the ground, trained for the race promises to stay. Lots going for him and despite having more than 11 stone I think I may have to back him.

    14. Big Fella Thanks – Short of experience, would also prefer softer ground and his jumping is a massive concern I don’t think he will get round.

    15. Mon Mome – Had a long hard season and though he should stay would prefer a bog.

    16. Silver Birch – Previous winner who has a great record around here, has had his problems and is now 12, but he hasn’t looked like the same horse since, though I think he will complete he won’t be troubling the judge.

    17. Butlers Cabin – I think will go off favourite now that A P Mc Coy has decided to ride him. Was going well in the race last year when falling at Bechers the second time around. Had a hard race at Cheltenham though unfortunately and I would really fancy him for the race if he was fresher. But he has place claims at least.

    18. Offshore Account – Former Grade one winner who looks fairly handicapped as he will stay and will act on the ground. May out run his odds and for me is a decent each way bet.

    19. Parsons Legacy – A horse I backed ante post for the race last year only for him not to run. This time around he comes here a fresh horse and has been trained for the race. Loves Good ground as well and is a sound enough jumper. Has a hell of a lot going for him and for me the most likely winner.

    20. Revillez – Not good enough badly handicapped and probably won’t stay.

    21. Fundamentalist – Not good enough doesn’t jump well enough and another that probably won’t stay.

    22. Golden Flight – Vaguely interesting on his French form and could be well in. Ran okay in the William Hill at Cheltenham and if his stamina holds out and he avoids the dreaded bounce factor he may outrun his odds.

    23. L’ami – Well in on old form, but for all that he has found his niche Cross Country races, has had chances round here before and hasn’t stayed the trip and I doubt he will this time either.

    24. Battlecry – Likes good ground, should stay comes here reasonably fresh. One of the more interesting outsiders. Could go well at a massive price.

    25. Cornish Sett – Welsh National second who there has been money for. Likes softish ground though and I think he is a bit of a dodgy jumper.

    26. Fleet Street – Not good enough and unlikely to stay.

    27. Musica Bella – Interesting French raider who has some half decent form. Quick ground an unknown though as is the distance.

    28. Can’t Buy Time – Fast improving horse, but he had a very hard race last at Cheltenham where he appeared not to stay and it will probably be the same on Saturday, though I wouldn’t give up on this horse for next years race.

    29. Darkness – Former Grade One winner who bounced back to his best last time out. Will like the ground and should stay. But this is a horse with major jumping issues, when he was winning he frequently hitting fences along the way. That was also evident when he won at Newbury, he simply won’t get away with it at Aintree and though I respect his trainer in this race I think this quirky customer will struggle to get round.

    30. Irish Inavder – Fast improving Irish raider, who acts on good ground and will probably stay, could go well but I think he may need another year and Ruby Walsh on his back.

    31. Rambling Minster – Stays well, jumps well and fresher than most, ground concerns though and I don’t think he will be quick enough, would have a big chance though if he is.

    32. Southern Vic – Needs soft ground, and though I respect his trainer and he should stay, he didn’t get round here in the Becher chase and I doubt he will have the pace to be handy enough when it matters.

    33. Kilbeggan Blade – Trained for the race will stay and should like the ground, but I have a big concern that all his best form is on right handed tracks and I worry he will go straight on at the Canal Turn. If he handles left handed he will go well.

    34. Brooklyn Brownie – Jumps well stays well and will handle the ground. Ran well here behind Endless Power and is one of the best outsiders.

    35. Himalayan Trail – Stays well and jumps well, trainer knows what it takes to win this race, ground a slight concern though as is his form this season.

    36. Arteea – No chance.

    37. Cerium – Another no hoper.

    38. Idle Talk – Got round last year and probably will again but in his own time.

    39. Kelami – Not the force of old and hasn’t completed in this race in three previous tries.

    40. Zabenz – Backed him for the race three years ago. Had problems but has looked rejuvenated in two point to point wins. But always been quirky and likely to struggle.

    41. Maljimar – Hard race Cheltenham where jockey got some unjustified stick. Each way chance if he gets in.

    42. Companero – Improving sort who would stay but stable form a big concern.

    43. Iron Man – No chance.

    44. Patsy Hall – Won’t stay.

It's quite a compressed handicap this year so i wouldn't discount the horses carrying above 11 stone lightly. I'm going for Hear The Echo with a side bet on Darkness. Irish National winners have a good record in this race and M Morris has had this in mind since that day. Davy Russell is yer man in these races.

Darkness probably won't get round, he'll plough into the first mre than likely, but if he does he'll still be running hard at the elbow. Hope the Aintree fences scare him into shape a bit. Always liked the horse and how he managed to finish third in his Sun Alliance i'll never know. He thumped every single fence on the way round but he did get round and he's never actually hit the deck in a race! Which is astounding really.

    Try 160 on betfair ;)

I'm going for Black Apalachi also, although he will favour the soft.

My will has to be a contender now, with Ruby on him, so I'll see later.
