Reporting a misleading Ebay auction.

I purchased a Laptop recently on Ebay. There was nothing mentioned about the laptop being faulty in the title or immediate follow up description and it clearly showed a fully working model with a Windows screen shot.

He also listed detailed long winded description of the machines specifications and at the bottom of he mentions that the charger is missing and the machine may not work at all.

He emailed me emphasizing the fact that I have bought a "non working" laptop. I disputed this immediatly and demanded a refund on the grounds that the auction was misleading by its title and incerted picture image of a fully operational laptop.

He has ignored three Emails so far. What grounds do I have on this case?

Whats the normal way of disputing these cases ?

Open up a Significantly Not As Described dispute.. will find the link and get back with it.

Have you already filed a dispute with eBay, because that would probably be your first step.

However, since he did state that "the machine may not work at all," you might be out of luck. You could also dispute your charges on your credit card or on paypal, but again it comes down to the listing.

I agree that it sounds like he deliberately made an effort to mask the fact that the laptop did not work and it is very shady. I know I would be upset as well. However, this is one of the reasons that you always want to read all of description.

If the page is still indexed in google or available in eBay, it would probably be a good idea to copy it as well. Not that this would really count for much, but it will give you a reference point...

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

    SNAD : http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/buy/item-not-received.html

You could always give them a call, get their details now :

To request a seller’s phone number, click the 'Advanced Search' link at the top right of any eBay page. Once you’re on the search page click the 'Find Contact Information' link on the left side, under the Members section, and follow the instructions.

    Cheers All,

It is more of a matter of principal that I want to expose this guy, he is obviously a chancer, more so for the fact that he is ignoring my responses. M guess is that he may have already forewarded the item despite me telling him that I did not want it.

The cost is not too prohibitive but I am going to expose him on principal. Opening up a" Significantly Not As Described dispute" might get him I will also report him for not responding to Emails. Ill keep you up to date. Cheers.

Cheers, I lodged a complaint and he got a nasty response from Ebay, transaction canceled and refunded :)

I got conned in a similar way once before (thankfully only on a 10 euro item), advertised as 'Fully tested!!" and then in tiny writing on the bottom "Testing outcome: Faulty". Some people are unreal....

This seems to be a common ebay scam all right.
I came across it looking at DSLR cameras. You'd find a camera advertised as 'new', the ad would be full of cut & past marketing & technical info and somewhere in the middle or at the bottom it would say the camera was a refurb.

Bottom line, you need to read the auction details fully, and be suspicious of too much detail!
