This is directed to the git on the N55 in the Transit Connect.
I hope you **** your togs with that stupid move.
Firstly, a continuous white line is not supposed to be overtaken on. Secondly, if you are going to follow another car in an overtaking move, make sure the way is clear.
Realising when you are at my b pillar you won't make it, then dropping a gear, and going for it, and forcing me to wedge on the stoppers, and then you braking, stopping level with me is generally a bad idea! Regards, Red Focus.

If all cars had front and rear facing cameras as standard then this nonsense could be sorted out handy enough.

I have been looking for a relatively cheap way putting camera(s) in my car for exactly the same reason as above. Not sure what way to go about it.

I should probably add that the driver of the car should have sole rights over the camera in it and that it shouldn't be allowed to be used against them for stupidly minor infractions of the ROTR. But then I guess it's a whole other issue.

I'd be interested in such a solution too. Had a scary situation yesterday by a woman driver [yeah, I know they aren't all like that]

I was on the Nangor road, coming up to one of the roundabouts at about 5:20pm. Traffic was rough. After the bus lane ended, I pulled into the left lane to turn left, after indicating. Driver about 2 cars in front of me saw me move into the left lane and swirved directly in to my path. I reckon she thought I was going to undertake a few cars and head around the roundabout. Feckin VERY dangerous move. I'm just glad there wasn't a bus coming up behind me or I'd be gone. Had to jam on the breaks to a full stop.

She didn't just edge out, she came half way into my lane when I was less than a car length away from her.

Some people just shouldn't be on the roads.

Was on the M9 on Tuesday coming down to Kilcullen. I was doing approx. 80ish and three cars passed me by as if I was stopped - ALL WOMEN!!!!

Thinking of getting one of these myself after a few near misses lately, it's quite expensive but I suppose it would pay for itself if some dumbass pulled out in front of you.
Records on a continous loop onto SD card and if it senses an impact or sudden braking writes a file to memory. Unit is attached to rear view mirror. Anyone use anything similar?

All you'd need then is a black Mondeo, a second arial on the roof, and one hubcap and you'd be laughin...:D

I think its a good idea. It would also be useful evidence in the event of a not at fault accident.

I have something like that, just uploaded a vid of a biker pulling a risky enough overtake: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUpD47y0_ho&fmt=18

The one I have is quite impossible to find anywhere, Random has been on the lookout I think.

I'm not sure these devices, and images recorded by them can be used as evidence.

I heard of a case before where someone had taped a collision or something on their phone, and showed the guards when they turned up. When the case went to court, the evidence on the camera was presented but couldn't be submitted. Some technicality on it not being recorded "officially" or some other nonsense.

Yes this camera device is time date stamped which is necessary to be used in court - I was considering the same device
Note: It records on a loop as mentioned, on detection of a collision (g-force) it holds on to the previous 20 seconds and continues to record which you can then remove it from its holder to record the scene and damage etc.
I don't know how it would fare if you had made an illegal maneuvre just prior to the collision even if you weren't the cause, could be self implicating as the footage is stored online via internet!

To the op I'm glad noone was hurt, Congratulate yourself that you were paying attention, you saw what was happening and took the right action. Don't dwell on it too much, there will always be bad drivers. Good work, it could have been a tragic multi car pile up.

dont know, i was told if something like this happens, to keep your foot on the gas, if theres a car coming at the guy overtaking you, he's definatly gonna hit the brakes, theres more chance of him being able to slip in behind you if you keep going,
although its not a situation id want to be in myself

Yes I could possibly agree with the above, but if it goes wrong everyone is travelling faster. The chap overtaking could be induced to go faster too, and then following traffic may not let him back in. Stopping then may not be an option for him anymore. The op slowing allowed the dangerous overtaker to slow, or slip in ahead, or just stop. It leaves everyone with more options.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Yep, she probably thought you were undertaking and didn't realise you were in the correct lane.

Wannabe garda? Probably bullied at school so now wants to act tough in the world? Note that's her, not you or the gardai

What happened to you is much like the drivers who unofficially police overtaking lanes by sticking to the national speed limit. Only your case was more dangerous

The way I figured, as he dropped a gear (big puff of smoke,) he was going to attempt to squeeze in past me. I had to brake to give the idiot a chance to finish what he was intent on starting, even with the big red VW Transporter coming bearing down on him.

And do you know what really pissed me off? After he had slipped back in behind me, after him locking his brakes, he had the nerve to flash and beep at me!?!

    Git.

I don't think forward or rear facing camera would have done anything in this case, apart from film the idiot flying through his window!

The amount of people who do this, even when the Bus lane is open for all to use. Do people even read the signs anymore?
