Does anyone know the codes for Dublin?

Don't worry, its nothing illegal, I moved apartment, and when I plugged in my box (UPC DVR) it states that its in initialisation mode and the code for my are needs to be put in for it to scan for the channels.

I can't even watch any of my previous recordings because it says I'm unsubscribed! (as its not getting a signal at the mo!)

So annoying, I have to wait 2 weeks or something for an engineer to come out, so I want to check it works myself.

I believe the code you're looking for is 131.

    Many thanks.

Although, I no longer live in 1, now in 11 - is it the same code? (must change my profile!)

Yeah it's the same code for the whole Dublin (ex NTL) network.

    Many thanks :)

Now lets just hope that there's nothing physically wrong with the cable in my new apartment!

    Hi all!

"I'm not looking to steal cable or satellite before anyone asks! I've got a subscription to a service that I'd like to use with the CI slot of my TV instead of the provided box. I already have the CAM however when I insert my legitimate card I get a message saying that I'm not entitled to view these channels, any help would be appreciated.".

    Hi all!

I'm not looking to steal cable before anyone asks! I've got a subscription that I'd like to use with my Diablo Cam instead of my media box. I'm using underworld 171 but when I insert my card I get a message saying that I'm not entitled to view these channels, any help would be appreciated.

    READ THE STICKIES!

Even if you are not trying to steal cable, using anything other than equipment supplied by UPC is not allowed under their terms of service. Therefore discussion of this is not allowed on boards.

Whats wrong with your mediabox? Why won't you use that?

That's a real shame too, most cable operators in the US allow you to use your own modems and probably your own receivers with a CAM...

So what you are telling me is that a cable or satellite provider will give me a 40" Sony TV? I think not! My cable is connected to the input of the TV, and therefore is completely within the Terms of Service, otherwise every person who subscribes to cable or satellite is in breach of these "Terms of Service" by connecting the cable to their tv (which is not supplied by cable or satellite provider)

To answer the other question the reason I don't want to use my mediabox is twofold, firstly it's another unsightly (and damn ugly!) box that requires another socket, has another red light, another remote control to lose, increases my carbon footprint...yada yada, yada yada.

Secondly, with no scart cable the picture is at it's utmost clarity, this particular legitimate box has no HDMI connector.

I will rephrase my original question in order to comply with the stickie, I've also removed any reference to any provider and so therefore the question is generic.

UPC dont do HD either, making the lack of HDMI on their standard-definition boxes a moot point. UPC's compression rates are so bad.. that on an LCD television, be it 21", 32" or 40"+, compression artifacts are clearly visible on a number of the channels, resulting in a lower quality compared to channels received on satellite.. Its these reasons that pushed me to get Sky while the folks have cable downstairs, ironically both UPC boxes are connected to HDTVs which seem to amplify the poor picture quality.

This is not what I meant. What the terms of service forbid is the use of anything (in your case a CAM) to decode their digital signal. So in your case, connecting the cable directly to your TV to decode the digital channels is in breach of their terms.

I agree that the use of third party equipment should be allowed by UPC. I would love not to have to use their crappy boxes! But they dont allow it, nothing we can do about that... As far as I know discussing any means of using third party equipment (eg CAMS, other boxes, etc) to decode digital cable is not allowed on boards, Can a Mod clarify this?

US VOD & Switched video services only work with cable company supplied boxes.

If you have a 40" TV you need Satellite. UPC hasn't the quality for it. The issue is not using SCART from their external setbox but encoding / source quality / bitrate.

Indeed since it's illegal to assist in Cable TV theft we can't discuss alternates to UPC's digital setboxes. Any difference in quality would be zero or marginal.
