I have just been quoted 180euro to get the key of my peugeot 406 copied from a main dealer. I know the chip etc is expensive but is there somewhere/someway other than a main dealer that I could get it done cheaper.

I got quoted silly money by Hyundai last year for a key for a '99 Accent.

I ended up using Colleran Locksmiths in Galway for a fraction of the price. 091-581857.

    Will they copy the chip?

I would have thought that only a main dealer would have access to the security code needed to add a key to the system.

It depends on the system though, afaik a code from Germany is needed for a VAG key, but a Mazda key can be added by doing a sequence of actions with an existing valid key.

There is a place in Dunlaoire called Brown Brothers that can clone most car keys. Price's I've paid have been between €40-€80 depending on which car. http://www.brownbros.ie/

(I'm not affiliated with them, just a happy customer)

Peugeot dealers will provide the security code, unlike VAG. Many locksmiths and specialists can do this easily.

FYI, Even though VAG will not supply codes many specialists can access the codes from the car. In some cases they can even get codes that the dealers cant.
The "only the dealer can do it" thing is just a line based on the fact that VAG tried to set it up that way.
