    Guys - is The wire only available in 4:3 ? Got a lend of the first series dvds and watched an episode last night - it was 4:3! Is this the case with the whole series?

    Just caught one of the bbc episodes and its 4:3 . So seems its only available in 4:3

    Seems to be what HBO do in general, the Sopranos and Curb Your Enthusiam are the same

    I heard that this was intentional. That it's shot on cinematic cameras but they use the 4:3 to give it a "televisual feel" :)

    Not in the least.

    The Sopranos was in 1:77:1 (widescreen) from season one on DVD, and on tv it might have varied from station to station.

    Curb is a comedy show, which generally hung on to the 4:3 format longer than hour-long dramas did.

    HBO shows are almost all in widescreen now - and there never was some sort of HBO madate to do otherwise.
