Hello, can some one tell me what is the procedure for applying for a firearms licence in Ireland.

Originally from Australia i lived in Galway and Cork for a total of 5 years before moving back to Brisbane with the wife for 3 years, now we are moving back over to Cork in a months time, i kept myself occupied with salmon fishing the last time i lived in Ireland but missed shooting and wish to continue, mainly small bore rifles and want to get into clay pigeon.

I have been searching for information, found documents like "NewFirearms Licence Code 25th March 2008" and so on but need a few links, also wanting to hear from anyone in the Munster region involved in any clubs about possible membership, thanks

    Anthony.

Lived in Oz for 5 years myself, the system in Australia is much more efficient and fairer in terms of gaining a license. You should try Fermoy rifle club they seem to have a very good setup there.

If you are shipping your firearms here my advise would be not to, its easier to sell in OZ and buy new in Ireland.

Traumadoc, cheers. was thinking about offloading the rifles as no shipping company wanted to know about them, or me with them and besides the 22.250 has had over 1000 rounds through it and i was never quite happy with the 270 since it went to a gunsmith.

    aussie..
    Im an aussie myself..Townsville,Nth Qld
I have been here going on 7 yrs and started shooting here 4 yrs ago...All I did was join the local gun club and apply for a shot gun licence..no bother..It took a while to get that but all the rest of the rifles took around six weeks.
As long as you dont have a criminal record back in Aus you should be ok.The powers to be in Dublin will do a interpol check on you as they did with myself.
