Before I start please nobody say just accept it and shave it all off because Im not gonna do that.

So I have noticed in the last few monts Im starting to lose alot of hair. Im 26 and bald just wont do. I shaved my head once and I looked awful, I need hair to frame my face. The last couple of months it has really started to get me down and its starting to knock my confidence. Everyday I seem to spend a little bit longer looking in the mirror and the baldness is starting to become noticeable now. I have done alot of research on hair transplants and they look pretty decent these days. I was wandering if anybody had got one and could let me know how successful it was.

    Hi,

Regarding the hair transplant my advice would be to not even consider it.

I had one done in 1998 and regret it every morning I wake up. As I was young was hairloss continued over the next few years and the fact I'd a transplant became more obvious.....due to scarring and the fact you could tell which hair had been transplanted.

As my hair had been thinning so quickly after my transplant I decided to bite the bullet and shave it all off..... I should've shaved my head when I was 18. Got loads of compliments and felt at ease with myself. There are still signs of the transplant.

My recommendation is to accept ur going bald....... a few transplanted hairs wont give you the same head of hair as Colin Farrell.

    Regards

Original Poster, I've been slowly going bald since I was 26, I'm 34 this year and not yet fully bald :D

I keep it trimmed very short, make sure to wear a cap or hat if I'm in the sun for long periods (or just spray sun lotion on ;)).

It's disappointing at first but to be honest I've completely and totally accepted it and I've had NO problems with the opposite sex as a result of going a good bit baldy:D

Feel free to post back and chat about it if it's something that's really getting you down. There are plenty of other options such as various hair restoration tablets etc. if you really feel that bad about it.

It's a problem that many of us men face and this is the kind of thing this forum is here for :) We're here for you pal!

Hi OP. i am very badly scarred on the top of my head. It was caused by birth neg on the part of the hospital. As part of my settlement(No actual money rec just treatment) they sent me to england to see a specialist. When I asked him about hair transplants near the end of my appointments he said they do not work and have not a high level of adhesion. He actually said my best bet was a good fitting hair pce. My confidence was at its lowest when I was 18

But TBH i am 33 now and I really does not bother me. Dont be so criticl of yourself.

One option was considering was a hair tattoo on the top??? Sill considering it.

Man just accept it and get on with your life. I am going bald myself the past couple of years. I went to a hair place to have it looked at and just got the "male pattern baldness" thing of the doctor. They offered to do a laser and take hair from the back of my head and put it on the top but the guy told me there was no guarantee it wouldnt fall off again so at that point I just accepted I was going bald. At the moment I have let my hair grow as I use to always have it close shaved and it covers up the balding part at the front and toward the centre. I am going to keep it that way until it becomes visible. Once that happens I am prepared to shave it off and just keep it short. Its a very common thing seemingly as the doctor mentioned that over 50% of men start suffering baldness in there 20's which came as a surprise.

i started to go bald when i was 20, i had a mop of red hair, and looked like rick astly. i knew i was going bald but told no one, as if they hadnt noticed already. i was very self concious about it and even with hair i never thought i was good looking. i met my wife when i was 24. she didnt even mention that i was going bald. i still thought no one noticed, but i just kept getting the barber to cut it tighter and then i got to like the size 3 cut (about 5 mill. of growth). but couldnt afford the 10/15 euro every 2week. so i got a mac3 and shaved it all off. now im 39 and totally bald. when i save my head it feels so liberating and feel so free afterwards. and i'll tell you something for nothing. the girls love it. my wife gets really pissed off at times. now i dont look like rick astly anymore i look like yul brynner. it wont look good at first because your head will be white but over time it will become the same shade as your face. i used to think everyone was looking at me when i shaved my head at first, and they were. because i was looking at them thinking they were looking at me looking at them looking at me. yeh see. i was the same as you. but im telling you something shave and the girls will throw themselves at you. they'll love your confidence. even if it is false at the start. i tried all the remedies, they dont work, one of them actually made me semi impidant for a while, i even tried that hair place on georges st. they just electricuted my head and put thickening lotion in it. look. just shave it off and feel free. its the cloest feeling you'll have to going naked on a beach. i'll be honest with you. if somebody invented a hair growth lotion tomorrow i wouldnt even try it out. i'm happy:):):):). it could be worse. you could be a bald woman:eek:. so go down to dunnes tomorrow and gat yourself a mac3. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Hi OP, I had a hair transplant in the US back in November 2006. I had been thinning on top, mostly at the front but also on the crown. A transplant involves (as you probably know) taking donor hair from the back of your head and planting it on top, which leaves a scar on the back of your head but will be covered by the hair there. My transplant worked really well and I'm very happy with it, was a bit of a lifesaver to be honest. I mostly got the front filled in and am still a bit thin on the crown but I can live with it. It's still not as thick as it used to be but it's practically unnoticeable now, and I have curly hair which helps to cover up also.
Most doctors that do this are in the US but I think the site below now recommends one or two in the UK. There are 2 doctors in Ireland - one is *very* expensive and the other one is in Cork. I met the Cork guy but I decided to go to a doctor in the US as it was cheaper and they are a lot more experienced over there. After a lot of research, mostly from the site below, I picked a doctor in Miami, called him a few times, paid a deposit on credit card over the phone, booked the procedure for a Monday, took a couple of weeks off work, booked a flight and hotel in Miami, flew out on the Saturday, had the procedure on the Monday, hung around Miami for a few days in a baseball cap as there is blood/scabs for a few days, flew home on the Friday, and haven't looked back since :) It takes about 4 - 5 months before they start to appear, the transplanted follicles fall out, they go into a dormant phase first etc etc...all the science bits are on the website.
As I said the site below is great...loads of before and after pictures and a great forum for asking questions and reading other people's posts. They also have a list of doctors (called the Coalition Network) that they recommend after inspecting their facilities, techniques etc. If they're good enough then they get on the list. At first I thought it might be run by people promoting or involved in the transplant industry and maybe the pictures were doctored, but I'm sure now that it's impartial and the founder of the site Pat is genuine. Beware though that the procedure isn't cheap...think mine cost 4800 dollars, then there was the flight, hotel etc.
My advice would be to read as much on that site as you can, ask loads of questions - people are happy to answer and help out, then start saving if you need to. If you really want it then it's very do-able and it worked for me. You will see from that site that a transplant isn't suitable for everyone i.e. if you are very bald it will take too much donor hair to cover up etc.

Hope this helps - I've posted anonymously as I don't want anyone to know that I had the procedure done :)

(By the way I have no affilliation whatsoever with these sites...I just found them really useful and they changed my whole opinion and attitude to transplants)

    Here's the actual site

Yeah but the doctor on that said he only recommended it for men over 30 which is a still several years away for the OP and it was also quite expensive going from anywhere between €10,000 and about €20,000 depending on how much work you need done. They said the average person needs between 1500-2000 follicles transplanted currently at €8.50 per follicle (€12750 - €17000) temporarily reduced from €10 plus actual doctors fee'se etc. As I said very expensive to get done in Ireland. The States would seem a much cheaper option.

How would i begin to search for a very good surgeon and possibly talk to a couple of previous patients? im 24 but i take it there are many reputable surgeons that deal with those under 30? to the previous poster who went to america what was the price in both countries if you dont mind me asking? blackrock clinic site currently says average cost is e9000. has anyone come across a site with price comparison per follicle?

    Hi Marin

I'm just back from a 6 month checkup in Sampson House in Blackrock.

I would absolutely recommend Blackrock. Maurice Collins is a straight talking man who will not bull**** you. The procedure does work. However, it is quite expensive. I paid 21,250 for 2500 grafts. But the change is amazing. I look
years younger. The boost to your confidence is huge too.

However, you are very young and will lose more hair. With younger people,I think surgeons are wary of the future loss producing an island of hair on an otherwise bald scalp. He will more likely start you on finesteride and minoxidil (regaine) to see how that goes. I use them and they definitely improved the crown of my head and the back (quite a marked difference in 6 months.) On top of this the transplant has given me a really natural looking head of hair - not a thick carpet but enough to stop me being a bald man.

The scar on the back of my head is invisible now after 6 months.

Be wary of cheaper prices here in Ireland. You get what you pay for. It is a huge outlay but you feel it is worth it everytime you look in the mirror.

someone mentioned a website in a post which i also found very useful, i still havent gotten a transplant yet as im trying to sort out a few other things first but im 27 and first noticed hairloss around the age of 19 and now im about a 3v norwood scale, i was using steroids for a while last year and that definitly speeded my hairloss up but since i stopped using them it seems to have slowed down alot so il give it another while and see does it stay that way then go for it... there seems to be 2 main hairloss doctors in ireland and you'd need a million quid in the bank to use one and the other one...well...i havent seen a single positive comment anywhere about him so be careful and do your reasearch cause its something you'll only get 1 shot at
