Private cars 'For Sale' outside my house - gone out of hand

Didn't really mind one car parked outside my house with a 'For Sale' sign on it, but over the last few months its increased to three - all seperate owners with different mobile phone numbers.

Someone (who's not very sure) told me its illegal for them to park there and I could contact the Gardai to sort it out. Its gone beyond cheeky at this stage and I'll have to take some action.

Is there a way I can get rid of them in a polite, non-violent and legal manner?
I just want to ring the owners and ask them to remove the cars but I'd like to know first if they're parked illegally?

    Thanks

    Are they taxed and insured?

If they're not park illegally there's nothing the Gardaí can do.

How about calling them (from a private no. use 141 I think?).
Say you were walking/driving past and saw the guards/someone in a removal truck taking one of the cars away (pretend there are four?), and you think they're coming back for the rest?
That should get them moved pretty quick...

I think some areas in Ireland have implemented some directive that prohibts this, but you'll have to check with your local authority.

As above, if they are all taxed and insured, parked legally and not obstructing your drive, then it's all ok.

Wexford county council introduced by laws against road side selling as a road safety initiative so ring your council!

If it's the same sellers week after week pass the contact details on to Revenue.

Okay lads, I appreciate all your helpful responses.
I suppose I'll just have to speak to the local Gardai and see what the position is.
    Thanks again.

Could try your local councils planning enforcement department and ask them to serve an enforcement notice. The Planning and Development Act 2000 defines "material change of use" and thus requiring planning permission as:
3.—(1) In this Act, “development” means, except where the context otherwise requires, the carrying out of any works on, in, over or under land or the making of any material change in the use of any structures or other land.
    (2) For the purposes of subsection (1) and without prejudice to the generality of that subsection—
    (a) where any structure or other land or any tree or other object on land becomes used for the exhibition of advertisements, or
    (b) where land becomes used for any of the following purposes—
    (i) the placing or keeping of any vans, tents or other objects, whether or not moveable and whether or not collapsible, for the purpose of caravanning or camping or habitation or the sale of goods,
(ii) the storage of caravans or tents, or
(iii) the deposit of vehicles whether or not usable for the purpose for which they were constructed or last used, old metal, mining or industrial waste, builders' waste, rubbish or debris,
the use of the land shall be taken as having materially changed.
    (3) For the avoidance of doubt, it is hereby declared that, for the purposes of this section, the use as two or more dwellings of any house previously used as a single dwelling involves a material change in the use of the structure and of each part thereof which is so used.

Officialdom is unlikely to get involved unless its a commercial operation.

The bye-laws that some councils have adopted are primarily aimed against people parking multiple cars on hard shoulders, etc. on a commercial basis.

Unless these cars are interfering with your access, what do you care?
