Question on Bank Holiday entitlements

    Hi guys,

Unfortunately I've recently been cut to a 3 day week (since Monday) and got a letter from work to give to the social welfare so am claiming for the other 2 days. The days I'm now working are Tuesday, Thursday & Fridays, and I have been told that they hope to have me back full-time in 4-6 weeks.

Now the question I have is with the Easter bank holiday coming up.. do I miss out on getting paid for this as Monday is no longer a working day for me? I would imagine my boss still has to pay me for the day but I'd appreciate if anyone can clarify this for me before I ask about it here at work.

    Cheers ears!

Looks like you won't be getting paid for that Monday, according to citizens information, since you're now working less than 40 hours per week.

However, I'm frequently wrong on these things. Perhaps you should call into citizens' info yourself and have them clarify it :)

Actually Xiney that is 40h in the previous five weeks, which the OP should fulfill with three days a week. To OP you should get 1/5th of your weekly salary (so your three days a week * 0.2) for the bank holiday as you're not working it.

thanks for your replies.... I've actually only started the 3 day week since this monday so I'm guessing that I still hold my bank holiday entitlements. Was looking at the citz info site and they said if you work 40 hours in the 5 weeks running up to the bank holiday then you are entitled to be paid for it... still not so sure if I will be though

Your bank holiday is calculated by first quailification, you have to have worked a total of 40 hrs in the previous 5 weeks as previous mentioned

Then an average weeks hours are calculated which you get 1/5 of this so because you only just started your short time recently you will get your "full
" entitlement only after this will it affect future bank holidays but not by much.
