Register and Tax Car in UK, Live in Ireland? (VRT Dodging No Tax Halo Angels Allowed)

I have a NI car that is still registered to the garage. Instead of VRT'n it I want to register it in UK. I already have a UK license and have access to an address in UK. I want to keep it at this address for 6 months to get free VRT claiming I'm moving back to UK.

*Is it possible to look for VRT exemption when paying tax and PRSI in Ireland.
*Whats the first thing I need to do, register or tax it.
*Can I use Irish insurance to tax it.

you need to have proof that you actually lived in the UK address.... uk bank account, be paid by a uk company, pay uk bills etc.

    it's not that easy.

I'm not sure why you think you can post a request here for advice on tax evasion while barring law abiding folks from the thread, but I wouldn't be surprised if this got locked very quickly.

It wont work. They look for the p45 from the Job you are leaving in the UK and payslips, bank statements and an UK insurance cert as proof the car was used in the UK all of which are difficult to get unless you have actually been living in the UK.

When I took a car in from the UK ligit, I showed UK insurance, UK licence, V5 in my name and UK social security number. Don't think they required anything else. Wage slips, proof of employment etc did not arise.

No VRT paid. Only stipualtion was car could not be sold for 12 months.

Edit: I think there was a clause that I had to own the car for 6 months in the UK, not 100% sure on that one.

I will be able to pay prsi in Uk and a p45. I'm thinking I can get insurance and cancel after a week just to have cert.

I'd like help and comments from people who are againt VRT and would like to dodge it. I don't need people saying " I paid mine why shouldn't you pay yours".

Should be able to do it ok with the address, you'd have to send yourself a few letters and maybe register a mobile or something up north to have a bill to show but can't see why not.
You certainly wouldn't need a p45 as suggested as you can live and work in seperate countries according to EU legislation and old agreements with the UK.

Well I got the exemption a few weeks ago and they asked for my p45 and also a few payslips from the UK.

By the way I am not trying to discourage the OP from trying his luck, I encourage anybody trying to get one over on the VRT system but they really check out people looking for the exemption.

Best of luck with that plan.

You should give the revenue a bit more credit.
Start saving the VRT monemy me thinks...

Why. What part of the plan is wrong. The only reason everyone isn't doing it is because they don't have access to address licence payslips.

You are an Irish resident. You are trying to get away with not paying VRT on a car you are importing. This is tax evasion. And that's illegal. People on boards.ie are not going to help you with illegal activities. Closed.
