Perez, Garcia and Acosta all in with decent opposition.

Perez is fighting a guy called Javier Mora, 22-4(18) he is ranked 62nd in the world by boxrec.

Garcia is fighting a guy called Casanova 22-12, ranked 90th in the world by boxrec

Acosta is fighting a guy called Caruso. ranked 117th by boxrec and recently went the scheduled 6 rounds but lost to cristian faccio at bantam. Which is really good since its only Acostas 5th fight. caruso has a 14-6 record

Gary O sullivan and Jamie Power are also on the card, opponents tba according to boxrec

On the same night Martin Lindsay takes on Paul Appleby for the Britsh featherweight title.

Felix Sturm puts his title on the line against Japanese opponent Koj Sato(14-0)

Howard Eastman takes on fellow Gauyna native Lennox Allen (9-0) Eastman has been doing well out there winning all 3 of his bouts since losing to Duddy.

Juanma takes on Penalosa who is coming up from bantamweight where he was wbo champ.

Froch defends his title against Taylor, looking forward to that one. Vernon Forrest, Paulie Mallignagi and Tyson Fury are on the undercard.

But anyway, the Cork show... Should be a good nights boxing. Pity we didnt get these shows on tv, really is.

It is a shame we dont get to see these fights on tv.
It would really help establish the guys, and get people interested in their rise up the ranks.

Anyway it looks like a decent step up in quality for each of them. So it will be interesting to see how they handle it. I hope the fights are atleast recorded and put on youtube or something like that.

It's a great card and if I was at home I'd be going to it.
A real step up from Hyde's earlier shows but he wasn't going to put the Cubans in with World beaters on there debuts. He's no prepared to match these guys tough and fastrack them towards World titles.

TBH not only is it the right thing to do but the smart thing to do because it won't be long till some American promoters or a certain Turkish promoter come snooping with a sack full of money, so Hyde should try and get these guys high up in the game before that happens.

I saw Garcia fight Michael Gbenga in Newcastle last February and he really was different class, Gbenga had given a very good account of himself against Dean Francis in a Commonwealth title bid not that long ago, taking a few rounds of the Englishman and while he was tough against Garcia he was outclassed in every department by a novice who's looking World Class already.
Garcia was Carl Froch's main sparring partner for his WBC title fight against Jean Pascal, which shows you the believe that people other than Hyde have in his abilities.

The Argentinian will possibly over a little more offensively than Gbenga(who didn't tuck up or spoil, he did come to win), but will not be nearly as tough and I can't see Garcia failing to stop him.

Acosta has looked fantastic so far but he's competition so far has been by far the worst, that's due to him failing to shake off a hand injury over the past few months. However with the way he's dealt with his opponents(4 stoppages out of 4 all within 3 rounds) they've had to step him up no matter what and they've jumped up several levels here.

Caruso has a draw with Diego Silva, a fighter who recently contested for the vacant interim WBO title at Bantamweight(against Fernando Montiel), now he was stopped in 3 rounds but Montiel is a damn good fighter.

He's also lost a split decision to Christian Faccio, flooring Faccio in the process, although in his last fight he was beaten comprehensively by Faccio.

I was very impressed by Acosta on his debut and I was very impressed in his last fight, he wasn't considered a puncher before turning pro but is showing the value of what sharp, accurate and technically well delivered punches can do. I think he'll score another stoppage here, even though this is quite a big step up, it's not going to be one he can't handle.

Now Mike Perez, or 'Mickey Joe' as he is affectionately called in some Cork circles, considered the star of the bunch by some because he's a heavyweight but in truth he's impressed me the least(but to be fair the other two impressed me hugely). He's got the skill to be a success, it's just a matter of whether he's got the rest. Nothing wrong with his chin though from what I've seen, and is punching power is good, although not quite devastating.

He blew away Harry Duivan jnr in 2 rounds when fellow Cuban prospect Odlanier Solis was taken the full 8. He's dealt quite easily with most of his opposition but last time out (in against a spoiler admittedly) he looked a little disinterested and didn't really like the way the fight went.
Perez is a counter puncher and likes fighters to come right at him, Page is a counter puncher himself(when he's motivated to actually try and win), so it resulted in a big of an ugly fight and although erez applied himself great in round 7, throughout most of the rest of the fight he was just frustraing me with his inability to use his tremendous talent.

Mora will come right at Perez eg
and should suit him down to the ground. Mora is the best fighter Perez has fought but due to his style and type of fighter he is, Perez should look fantastic against him.....no excuses. This guy is aggressive, he has a decent punch and a good workrate. He's a little bit crude and his chin is a bit questionable(as shown above), Perez should be too slick and his counter shots should find the target.
I'd expect him to put Mora away at some point, whether it's early or late depends on Perez, but I'm gonna guess within the first 3.
As I said though, there's no excuses for Perez here, he's got to look great and I can't think of a reason why he won't.

O'Sullivan and Power don't have opponents named but both men will look exciting against anything, both are very aggressive pressure fighters with a decent punch. They'll be good value no matter who they're matched with, I hope to see O'Sullivan in with someone decent to progress his career though.
Power probably isn't going to go anywhere in the game so I'm not that concerned with who he fights(once it's someone who's game and tough), because he'll be value for money against anyone. A fighter with a great attitude and loads of heart, even if he isn't the most talented man in the World. I'd like to see him get an irish title shot later this year if he can keep winning.

    Other fights on the night:
Lindsay v Appleby is a big one, two young prospects who are only going to get better being matched together for a good title. It's a 50/50 fight and it really could go either way. I think the winner will prove to be the best of the 4 of Linsay, Appleby, Truscott and Simpson but I still think the winner of this should fight Simpson and then fight Truscott.

Sturm is going to win either by stoppage or shutout, I've seen Sato fight and his 14-0-0(13 ko's) record shouldn't fool you, the guys one of the most crude fighters I've seen get a title shot and his hands are slow as hell and he generally doesn't have anything going for him other than his power. He's easy to hit too and Sturm will have his way with him.

Apparently that Lennox Allen is quite good so it'll be a real test for Howard Eastman who is probably fighting for his career. If Eastman wins he could probably get a fight with a contender for reasonable money to help keep his bank account healthy but he won't be doing anything at his age and with his advanced decline. There's plenty going for Allen if he wins.

Lopez is in with a very durable opponent who will come forward and with a high workrate, we'll probably find out if he's as good as we think he is in this fight. I reckon he is and I see him stopping Penalosa before the 7th is out.

Froch v Taylor is obviously a big one and very exciting, I think Froch might take it but it's another 50/50 and at a very high level. Massive fight.

Vernon Forrest defends his title but his opponent isn't up to much, should be an easy defence and depending on how Vernon looks we could consider should John Duddy be put in with him now or a little later down the line after some tests against other contenders.

The Cork show should be a cracker though, Garcia looks genuine World Class right now, Acosta has looked potential World Class in his work so far and Perez has shown World Class skill at times but often won't use it, however I expect he'll deliver this time. With the 2 Irish lads that are on the undercard being the type of fighters they are I reckon that'll be 5 fights well worth watching and I'm disappointed I'll miss it.

Appleby-Linsday is the one I would watch.

You gaotta admire Eastman, a real warrior and tough
cookie. Duddy's win was so good over Howard!

Then the big one which will or should be a cracker, Taylor-Froch.

I think Taylor has it to lose. He has all the speed and skill
and generalship. Can he hold for 12 rds?

100 is a little expensive even with the meal - in saying that if if was in Dublin I would attend.

The fight is available on gofightlive.tv for 5 quid, but I'm not sure how if works in regard to only being able to see it live and the repeat or being able to watch it anytime you want.

With the Lindsay fight on that's a big issue for me, i'll try and find out.
Normally I'm against ppv but when there's no tv for the fight it's acceptable.

    .

In Eastmans last fight he let Leon Gilk's 4-10-3 record- and has been stopped eight times ,take him the distance.

Yep Eastman's finished, just collecting some handy money to finish out his career at home in Guyana and probably hoping that stringing a few wins together will get him one last payday.

He's injured and out for 5 months :(, terribly disappointing as this was going to be a great step up for him and the type of fight which would lead him into bigger fights again in the very near future.

Ooooh nasty, terrible time for it to come, hopefully he can get something in by the end of the year and have a fight like this in Jan / Feb. Any news on what the injury is?

I hope the meal was good - the crowd didn't get much value for money in the ring - three first round KOs!

Super middle Luis Garcia beat Nestor Casanova KO 1st
Light middle Gary O'Sullivan beat Marcin Piatkowski KO 1st
Light heavyweight Jamie Power beat Vladimir Idranyi points 6 rounds
Bantamweight Alexei Acosta beat Sergio Victor Caruso KO 1st
