I just got their "Yellow House" album, really lovely stuff. Apparently Radiohead are big fans.

You can download a couple of tracks here (I really recommend "On a Neck, on a spit")

None of my cohorts is familiar with them though, just wondering if there are any fans here?

Huge fan, was introduced to them towards the end of last year, became one of my favourite bands pretty much overnight. Yellow House is a fantastic piece of work. Their new album is out soon, you can get the new single free off NME I think.

They are excellent. Hopefully they're due a visit back here some day. But now that they are famous, I don't suppose it will be 15 Eur to see them.

Ye 'Yellow House' is fantastic. Just got into them recently after a friend lent me that album.

You can get the 1st single from their upcoming album 'Veckatimest' for free here http://stereogum.com/mp3/

Theres a lot of hype around the album. Similar to the hype around Animal Collective's latest effort. Hope it too can live up to that hype

The first I heard of them as a couple of weeks ago. They did a couple of tracks on "Dark was the night" charity record. Good tunes too so ill go about getting that album id say.

    Cheers for the heads up.

(Also "Dark was the night" Is fantastic and well worth a listen Bon Iver, Arcade fire, The Decemberists, The National, Spoon, Yo la Tengo amoung loads of others)

They had Yellow House in Tower for a tenner a while back. You might still be able to pick it up cheap.

As for Dark Was the Night - fantastic stuff! I don't believe I've ever bought a compilation before because of my preconceptions about them being ****. In this case I was happily mistaken. Great album for a great cause.

Have been into them since horn of plenty back in like 2006, and was at the gig in whelans, one of the best gigs ive ever seen. Amazing band, and really nice guys.
Tho i have to admit it does bug me that suddenly people seem to be touting them as the next big thing, theyve been around for ages.

Totally agree with all the 'Dark Was The Night' talk. Its brilliant. Perhaps worthy of its own thread.....

Love the reworked version of 'Shift' from Horn of Plenty:

Though yeah, it is very funny that people are picking up now after Yellow House getting quite a lot of exposure on its release. But what can you do, they're a good band so I'm glad things are going well for them :)

I'm really looking forward to Veckatimest, the songs I've heard from it so far sound really beautiful. Fingers crossed it'll surpass previous material.

Because Veckatimest was leaked online Grizzly Bear made it available officially from a few different websites.

Ordered it last week and am eagerly awaiting its arrival.

[edit]Ignore what I said - I am a dope. It was a preorder that I got. Not sure why I thought I'd get it before the official release.[/edit]

Just got through listening to the new album. I think it sounds great. A lot more listening will be done.

The instrumentalism and production is fantastic. There are so many alien sounds to your conventional band, even symbol crashes seem unique, and it has a lush and rich sound overall.

Most of the songs have quiet a slow and mellow pace, making for an elegant and romantic sound, and a beautiful aesthetic. I have to say I liked Yellow House, but I wasn't crazy about it, if I could criticize it maybe it wasn't melodically engaging overall. I'd say this record is melodically stronger, and captures the immagination.

    What do people think?

Before i comment i have to say ive been a long time GB fan, since i first heard deep sea diver off horn of plenty in early 06. Yellow house is one of my most listened to albums ever, so its with a heavy heart i have to say i think this album is a bit of a let down.
It starts well, the opener and two weeks are great, but then it just plods along and iseems to be actually pretty boring to be honest, right up til while you wait for the others. And then ends on with two more slow, slightly dull tunes.
I dont know if its the production or what, bu the guitar jsut doesnt stand out like it did on yellow house, the harmonies are almost too much at times and the vocals are almost like theyre just singing sounds and not words, i cant pick out any lyrics at all, except for on two weeks and while you wait..
Its typical thet this seems to be the album thats propelled them into the mainstream as its nowhere near as good as yellow house. There isnt a single song on vecatimest that can compare with lullaby, knife, little brother, on a neck on a spit etc. And if it didnt have those two big songs two weeks, and while you wait for the others, it is an album that would probably put you to sleep.
God dammit i love grizzly bear but this is just a sub par album :(

Been listening to this album the past few days and it just hasn't grabbed me yet. Its really beautiful musically but none of the songs have really stood out. Probably need to give it more time.

I'd never heard of them until they were on Jools last month.

Was impressed, and would definitely like to hear more
