I just wanted to extend my good wishes (what words work here) to all those losing their jobs in SR Technics tommorrow, my wife included. I know how much see enjoyed her time there from TEAM thru FLS onto SRT, it's such a damned shame to see so many highly skilled people being let go. Words seem to serve little purpose when a husband and wife or a father and son will be joining each other on the dole queue.

It sickens me when our goverment talk about us all sharing the hard times, they really have no idea. They should hang their heads in shame for not only allowing these jobs to be lost but for standing by while people who paid into (in good faith) a pension scheme which they now learn to be next to useless because SRT can get away giving two fingers to the Irish labour Court.

So may I wish each and everyone of the staff at SRT all the best for what ever the future holds for them.

I would like to second that - I used to work in manufacturing and lost my job because the company closed down becasue of competitionetc but the government should do hatever it can to keep this company going as it is viable.

I'm not privy to the details, but if what is published in the press is anything to go by then the Co involved have not covered themselves in glory... lessons for the future.

Hope some jobs can be saved.

If the Dublin operation of SR Technics 'closed down because of competition' then that would imply that it is uncompetitive within the Industry.

If the Dublin operation of SR Technics closed down because of 'etc' I assume you are speaking of other factors, what are those factors? SIPTU?

If you are relying on the Government to save peoples Jobs you are relying on the wrong team.

The Government (Zanu-FF) are the people behind our uncompetitive downward spiral. They have over the last 12 years allowed base costs in the economy to escalate unchecked.

The company (SR Technics) will keep going, just elsewhere, bar emergency repairs Planes can fly elsewhere to be worked on, as such the jobs cannot be saved in Dublin at existing cost structure.

The scandal will be if SR Technics are allowed to renege on their pension commitments. I am not sure whats happened in this regard, perhaps someone can enlighten us?

My best wishes go to the staff aswell. Im employed by major player in the business, who ARE making money in the line of industry that they are in but yet the company are trying to erode all the terms and conditions that the staff have earned through the plant agreement, why?? because of pure greed!.
Lets hope we dont join our fellow aviators in such a dreedful time. Because of greed.

I am not familiar with the why's or wherefore's of SR Technics except that my good neighbour has lost his job there after about 31 years with them. At 50 years of age it is very hard for him...and he is quite devastated to say the least.
I ask the question ..Where does Aer Lingus get their aircraft serviced. They own a share in the company.. do they go somewhere else now..?? do they not support the home faciility.
I cannot fathom why Ministers go on trips abroad to entice business to Ireland and on the other hand stand by and let the SR Technics facility close. Surely this industry could be saved .

I beleive there are a about 4 differant "Intrested Party's" but they will not employ the full 1100 staff. As for the goverment? An other days work or another forum!!

Aer Lingus get their aircraft maintaned by Sabena Technics in Bordeaux and Dinard. The contract was awarded to them after lenghtly contract negotiations between several MRO's including SR Technics.
I dont know what you mean in "They own a share in the company"...i think you are confusing this to the 90's when the hangar facilities in Dublin Airport were indeed part of Aer Lingus..TEAM Aer Lingus. But in 1998, TEAM was sold to FLS Aerospace and all in relation to the hangars was sold then.

I am a former employee of FLS Aerospace and SR Technics in Dublin. To be honest, I never thought i would actually see the day when they decided to pull the plug on Dublin. I was shocked to say the least. I sincerely wish all the best to my former work colleagues in SRT Dublin. Hand on Heart, a great bunch of guys who i had the honor of working with.
As far as saving the jobs, there are ongoing talks between 4 seriously interested parties. I believe one of these is a management buyout, but from reading the papers etc, i think this is the least likely at this stage due to lack of funding. Last Friday, The unions and IDA were pleading for 2 weeks to sort talks out and finalise something, so hopefully during next week we may see something concrete come out of this whole unfortunate situation. Even if we only see Half the 1100 Jobs saved....in my reckoning 550 jobs saved is better than 1100 lost.
