So im hoping this is the right place to post this. It is animal related anyway:)

Basically i love going to different places to walk my dog, she's a siberian husky and so i like going for long walks. I though it might be a good idea to tell people of good places you have been and what they are like. I know Im always looking for new places to bring my girl, so i thought this would help anyone who's looking for good places to go.
I guess just say where you are and what good places are near you :)

Im located in Meath and so far ive brought her to:

Dun na Ri forest park in Kingscourt, cavan. - Lovely forest park so nice to walk through, dogs must be kept on a lead, though not everyone obeys this unfortunately.

Donadea forest park, Kildare. - again a realy nice forest park, has a really long walk that goes right around the park! very good to tire your dog out :) they must be kept on a lead here too.

Bettystown Beach, Meath - Good long beach, has tired my husky out walking up and back. Most people let their dogs loose here, i cant as she's a sibe and wont come back to me. but its a realy nice beach!

also been to the Phoenix park, Dublin - Not my personal favourite though there is no denying that it is large!

    Happy Posting :)

Im in clondalkin, so bring my fella to the football pitches in corkagh park every day for his walk (as long as there is no matches going on). There are some good "common land" fields behind the pitches as well, that are good for a run.

For proper/long walks Trabadden Woods/mountain is nice just past johnny fox's going towards tallaght.

Think I might head down to Donadea this wkend if the weather is still nice!:)

I was at Donadea last weekend. Just to mention that if you want to park in the car park its 4 euro, but i saw people parking out on the road so you only pay if you go into the car park. Its nice and they have a 9/11 memorial which is quite interesting.

There's a park at the back of the creditunion in Kilcullen. If you walk down to the end, then keep going down the lane beside the river you come to a field. It's a lovely (but short) walk in itself, but the field is totally enclosed, and when there is no livestock in it, the amount of people walking their dogs is great. The general way of it is, the dogs are offlead and you just deal with it. It's really lovely. I'm amazed how easy it is to chat to other people with dogs. And the dogs who are regularly there are all very well socialised and they all get on like a house on fire. (see pics attached, first one is Molly and Harley having a ball, the second one is Chester and Harley)

Then obviously there's the curragh, which can be nice too.

(EDIT: after the second pic, chester stood up suddenly and harley got a little jockey before falling off :D )

    Is Chester a weimaraner?

I love howth head for walking dogs or Dollymount Beach. I bring my boarders there sometimes. I normally go to St Annes park but last time I was there there was loads of broken glass. Boo Urns!

I'm sorry for being pedantic but Bettystown and the beach is in Co. Meath, not Co. Louth. :o

I love Bushy Park in D6. There's ususlly loads of other dogs and my pup loves bounding up to them to say hello.

If the dog is friendly he'll turn tail and scarper back to me, if the dog growls at him he'll bounce around them wagging his tail. :D

    Purple,

I heard that the guards are warning women not to go walking around Bushy Park after that savage attack on Monday night.

    Sorry for ruining the thread like . . . . . . . . . . . . . . but you know, better safe than sorry.

I'm going to be pedantic too as Dun na Ri is in Kingscourt, Co. Cavan.

If you're in Meath, try the Lakeside Manor at Virginia. Bring wellies and there are lovely walks to go on there by the lake.

Also, at Virginia school grounds beside the lake there's another lovely walk through a part of forest along the lake and then along the golf course.

Do many people many have their dogs off the lead up killiney hill? I love bringing Ben to places where he can have a run and he loves it too. Here is a pic to show what I mean.

Forest Park in Boyle is a nice walk. Supposed to be kept on a lead there too.

It has a charge to park there but a lot of people park outside the barrier.

Had my fella down in Strandhill beach(Sligo). Walked down the beach then climbed into the dunnes for the trek back. Very quiet and could take him off the lead and let him follow me at his own pace

Strandhill would be a great place to let them have a run and explore up and down the massive dunes there, it's a beautiful place.

The cliffwalk between Bray & greystones, fabulous sea views; probably my favourite place in the world.

Climb the head & take one of the higher walks if you're feeling fit; again, the views are worth it!

Great places to take your camera early morning to capture the sunrise too.

Great thread! Keep the suggestions coming.

I usually go to the phoenix park and some random places around Wicklow with my dog. He likes going to Glendalough. He had an accident in a river. Fell in, so I think it's one of them places he'll never forget. :)

I used to have a dog who LOVED Lord Masseys Forest, Cruagh Wood and Bohernabreena Reservoir - she was a springer spaniel whose idea of heaven was off leash, water, rocks to bark at and underbrush to explore.

All of those places were totally accepting of dogs off leash.

Buy a threadmill and put the little fella on it while you watch TV, holding the leash.

If peeps insist on having doggy off lead then be mindful of other users, especially those on horse back, not fun having a dog chase or jump up snapping!

I was in donadea forest today. It was lovely, had never even heard of it before leelee so thanks for the recommendation! I think it will be a regular for us now, it's only 30-40 mins drive away.

hey no problem!! im so glad you liked it there! i just happened to find out about it when i was looking up places online to bring my dog for walks! Its not too far fro me either so ill probably make it a fairly regular spot to go. Really pleasant park to walk in! :)

I headed out to mullaghmeen park today, its much further out than i thought it would be and doesnt really have the same nice feel as Donadea or Dun na Ri but it is good if you're looking for a long fairly tough walk, lots of uphill and downhill as its not on flat land. I was certaintly wrecked after it as was Kodi. Dont think ill go again though as its just a bit too far from where i am.

Went up to the Hell fire club last saturday with my lad, one of the nicest walks i ve been on, not many people up there for such a beautiful day. Lots of little routes varying in length to get to the top.

Has anyone any recommendations around the Co. Louth & Co. Meath areas?

We go to Townley Hall, Beaulieu Woods, Oriel Beach is a great spot (lovely and quiet), Termonfeckin beach, Oldbridge House.

These are all great spots where the dogs can be off the lead but am looking for a few more. Am going to head out to Balrath Woods today, so hopefully that will be nice.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

if only that was good enough. dogs need to walk outside for stimulation, scents, socialisation etc ...
