It's a shame my birthday & christmas are so far off!!! :(

Love the funky look of the 310 - even if it is quite large

    It's a bigger picture. Optical illusion. :D

Actually looks like it'll be the same form factor as the 305, just a lot more useful. I'd nearly prefer it to a 405, particularly if it does some form of tracklog/route mapping, which the 405 doesn't do at all.

I have a 305 which a few friends have used. They have all invested in 405s now. A couple of them reckon that the 305 is superior from a usability viewpoint. The bevel drove them soft initially. I think I would definitely be going for a 310XT. It will be interesting to see how much they are.

Oh dear. I was happy with my 305 up till now. :(

I know I'm just going to have to have one.

It seems that the spending never stops. There's always something newer and shinier to buy. <sigh>

I was on the verge of a 305 but decided against it as it doesn't like to swim! So spent less that 50 quid on this http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Timex_Triathlon_50_Lap_Sleek_Watch/5360032922/ which has done the job but is used more for recording my race time (which I always stop late because I'm so fecked at the end of a race) and as an alarm clock! This 310XT looks waaay too tempting as 'pace' is something I found I need to be aware of more so than 'I'll check my time at the 3m garden gnome, 5m lamp post etc.... Just as well its not out yet as my change jar is destined for a wetsuit...

Anybody know when the 310XT is due out? Looks kinda Thunderbirds cool! Think my 305 is gonna be saying hello ebay...

Summer 2009. (I don't work for them, honest!).

Amazon state they will have them from next Friday. Tempted by either one of these or the Polar 800CX. At the moment the 405CX is tipping it from what ive read but there's so much to read on these its like a minefield!

I had a look at these at the Paris expo and anyone thinking of the Foreurnner 310XT will be happy to know that size wise its in the middle of the 305 and 405. If I didn't own the 405 I would def be tempted by the 310xt,

wish i even had a forerunner , anyone would do , i think the time is up on my €30 stop watch ( pardon the pun), but between bikes , wetsuits , runners , acessories you nearly need a sponsor just to pursue the sport ( triathlons )as a hobby !

    from specs
Water resistant to IPX7 (1 meter of water for 30 minutes)

Don't think this model will cut it, I'd be suspicious about the bezel underwater and with bodies clattering at the start of a Tri swim.

The 310XT however looks like the ticket!

The only difference between the 405 and 405XC is a new algorithm for calorie counting. Sounds more like it should be a software update for the 405. Oh, and a new strap for those with a smaller wrist disposition. Definitely not a candidate for triathletes.

do "we" know if the 310XT work in indoor pools, and can autolap?

£300  in a year it'll be £200 (I'd guess). I do like gadgets though. Damn you OP!

Looks like the heart rate monitor won't work when you're in the water. They also don't say anything about the GPS working when you're in the water, my guess is probably not.

i doubt it. i dont anyone has invented a wrist watch for HR in the water.

No reason why you can't use it skiing, they even have various different forms of skiing that you can select as the activity options in Garmin Connect.

Brought my 405 skiing, and it worked like a charm. Good satellite reception on top of those mountains too! Here's one of the days. You can also use the tracklog to geo-tag your photos afterwards.

If I'm updating from a very old and used 305 (would keep it only it's telling me I'm running 2:50 minute miles regularly, and that my heart rate is 230), I'm only going to be running and I've no interest or clue about the techno bits, don't use connect or anything like that, just want to know my pace and heart rate occasionally...should I go for 405 or 310xt?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,492 ✭✭✭Woddle

If thats all you want from the watch, you could go with the 305 which is cheaper again if a little bulky on the wrist.

I'd rather not get the 305 again due to the bulkiness, but I don't like the thought of a pain in the ass bezel. If the 305 was smaller I'd just get that again. Just don't know if the 310XT is the same?

    405 or 310XT?

I have a 310xt, claimed battery life is 20 hours, actually battery life when used with GPS and HRM is 14.5

Thats still quite good when compared with the 405, mine was fully charged for the marathon but when finished it started beeping alerting me to the low battery, in saying that though RF is alot quicker than me so probably not an issue. Whats the difference in price?

Thanks Krusty, looks excellent on Garmin connect, that's exactly what I wanted to be able to track day's activities afterwards. 310xt it is then. Cheers...

Makes sense, I'll just have to go buy it!!

The bezel isn't that much of an issue as long as you get in the habit of locking it. I did forget to lock it when just using it just as a watch whilst skiing though, then after a bit of snow got up my sleeve it was doing strange things for the next half hour.
