Career change to accountancy

    Hi

Im an engineer with a B.Tech degree and 3.5yrs of engineering experience. However I want to change career to accountancy and i'm looking at the conversion course 'H.Dip in Accountancy & Corporate Finance in UCC'. I'd be mostly interested in being an accountant in Industry. I'm in my late 20's. Obviously I know i'd be starting at the bottom againi but i'm prepared for this.

Considering the current economic situation, and the amount of undergrads coming out with accountancy degrees this year and looking for work, will my experience stand to me or will I be at a serious disadvantage considering they will probably have more exemptions from the major bodies due to the higher qualification etc??

    thanks

First of all check with the relevant bodies... ACCA or CIMA (best options for Industry in my opinion) or ICAI and CPA to see what exemptions you will get with the H. Dip.

Exemptions aren't the most important criteria when taking on a trainee accountant.

However, competition for places is very tight at the moment. But, as the saying goes, there's always more room for another good ... accountant etc.

    Good luck.

BTW, you might want to look into the accountancy forum under Biz
