Thanks for that Graeme. I thought the general comments at the end were most interesting. Some difficult issues and no easy answers eg:

Clubs in a given area undercutting each other to compete for new members - good for golfers, bad for clubs.

Senior golfers becoming a club within a club.

Young professionals joining for different reasons such as having a place to invite clients - fewer in the 25-40 bracket are focused on joining to play golf, compete and support the club on teams etc.

Indeed, some very interesting things to ponder...
I can tell you that the discount for Senior members is a huge point of contention in my Club at the moment. I can understand the Seniors being entitled to a discount if they have had a long period of uninterupted membership but based on age alone is very wrong...
The comment "a Club within a Club" could not be more relevant to my Club also... This has developed into a farce at the moment and came to a head about 5 years ago when an AGM got packed by this group en mass and got control of the Management Commitee!
The other members have no interest in wrestling control back as long as the "work" of the Club is being done...
In the current financial climate my Club is in the hands of Seniors who have their own agenda and can not see past the next three years.. A recipe for disaster...

The one that caught my eye was

"Members living longer - reducing subs income."

Had to laugh - you can just picture the officials looking longingly at the older members like angels of death :D

Anyway with the health cuts on the way might solve that issue for them.
