All astra 2c transponders have been powered down as it heads to its temporary posistion@ 31.5 east to stand in for astra 5a that failed in January.

2c was co-located with 2a 2b 2d and eurobird 1 @ 28.2/5 as back-up if any of them failed. My question is what happens now if any of the above do fail ?
s e s claim it is a temporary measure for about a year, are they just keeping their fingers crossed that no catostrophic event will happen at 28 or do they know more than We do about imminent channel closures freeing up emergency capacity if needed:confused:

    Any ideas guys ?

It's probably part of that RTE going free to air thing. They're moving to 31.5E, but FTA;)

    See this post http://www.spacemart.com/reports/SES_To_Move_ASTRA_2C_Satellite_To_31_5_Degrees_East_999.html

I don't think that you need worry unduly about continued availability of your favourite satellite programmes. You could alway get in touch with SES to see what contingency arrangements are in place, but I think the above report indicates that all is in hand.;)

Well if it does go all pear shaped. Rest assured there will be back up plan..as there hardly going to let us go without Satellite. There will be murders...Sky will go nuts and the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse will ride off into the sunset:D:D
