Hi guys, I am currently in third year of Computing in DIT, but I am not really enjoying the course very much and was just wondering if anyone knows what my options are for transferring to a different course, without needing to start a fresh in first year.Thanks.

It depends on the type of course you want to move to. If you want to move to the other computer science course in kevin street, if you e-mail the course co-ordinator chances are that you will be allowed to transfer directly into third year of that course (i.e. either 228 -> 211 or 211 -> 228).

    there is also an evening degree, and again I'm sure you would be allowed to get straight into year 3;

If you want to transfer into a non-computer course, unfortunately chances are you will have to start at year 1.

What are these party days you speak of?:pac:
The step up from first year to second year is a joke.

3rd year should be a bit easier from what I heard.
    Could be bs though...

Do I need to pass third year in my current course to transfer in?

Because you are in third year already, you should be able to just transfer
into third year of dt228 internally.

If you don't mind me asking. I presume your reason for transfer is purely down to the networking modules?
My big complaint is the exclusive focus on cisco equipment and a heavy reliance on those "online" cisco exams.

Networking at third level should not focus on how to just configure a cisco 2500 series
router that will be obsolete in a year or two. A deeper look at how the protocols actually
function, and integration with some code examples would be nice.

I hope things work out for you:)

When the cisco 2500 becomes obsolete, guess what will replace it?

You could probably transfer some credit between various modules.

For example, say you passed Programming. You could transfer the credits from that module and use it as an exemption for a similar programming module in 228.

True, you can't argue that Cisco don't practically own the networking industry:pac:

How can a programmer have an issue with configuring routers - its basically programming a router.... IMO If there is anything difficult about networking its understanding all the protocols, be them physical or logical
