Not worth a penny. If you use good polish like "driven" and then wash the car with Einszett range of shampoos you should only have to polish a couple of times a year.
Most car washing products you can buy over the counter are fairly bad. Do some research and buy the products over the net.
Einszett do a range of polishes too includng Glanz wax it's not the best I ever used but it's better than most stuff you see in the shops. It is however a sort of personal choice. I try different waxes but the Einszett range of shampoos I have stayed with as they are the best, and as a testement to them they are used by jaguar and Mercedes at the factory.

    bought one last year.
Pain in the ass to use. If your gonna get one, get one that looks like an angle grinder i.e. the long one with a handle sticking out at 90 degrees, not the round one

Yes the round one is a slow speed useless piece of .... it just pushes the polish around.
However the angle grinder type is a high speed mop and needs experience to use. They are used with mild abrasive polishes to remove a tiny top layer of paint.
They with improper use can seriously damage your paint. However I have been tempted to buy one I would need a donor car to practice on though. However i think they are only needed in extreme cases of paint oxidisation

okay... I was almost tempted to buy one before I read yours posts...
I say I better keep putting coins into my piggy bank untill it's enough to buy Meguiar's G220. Anyone know if they do sell them polishers in ireland? and where?

You could try their trade distributor in Clane. Otherwise have a look at the Kestral DAS-6 Dual Action Polishing Machine instead. Save a good few Euro as well.

Thanks TomMc, that's a very tempting price for that machine I think I'm gonna make it a birthday present for myself next month ;)

How likely is an amateur to do damage with one of these machines?
