Virus? Or Paranoia?

    So since today this:

    screen.jpg

always comes up the second I start up my laptop. It's the very first thing that comes up, even before everything has loaded such as MSN and stuff. It says I need to install software to confirm that my copy of windows is genuine. I'm not worried about that, because it is a genuine copy. But is there any chance this could be a virus? I just don't want to go installing stuff that I'm not sure about...especially since this started appearing out of no where.

Anyone know if this looks like it's real?

    So is this genuine?
I installed it last week and have been experiencing problems with my lap top since.
The screen resolution keep reverting ot large and even after I change it back and appy the changes the next start up is likely to be in large res. Is ther a connection?

It's Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage program.
It's used to validate your windows isn't pirated. Some downloads aren't available without validating.

Updates are only available without validating by Automatic Updates

There are problems with it from time to time with it thinking that some pc don't validate when they should.

generally it should be ok to install. unless your windows is pirated of course :D

Hang on, I think I see the problem,

you've got windows on your computer ! :pac:

It's a utility that verified to microsoft that your copy of windows is genuine, some freebies won't install unless you install this.

if you are unsure as to if it is legit then run windowsupdate and see if it's included

Re: Laptop resolution if you have 1920x1200 then try dividing by 2/3 to
give 1440 x 800 or as near as you can, depends on which control program is used either windows or the card driver
