North Korea Threatens War Against Japan Over Missile shoot down threat.

North Korea’s government vowed to wage war against Japan if Japanese defense forces try to shoot down a missile that the communist nation says will carry a communications satellite.

“Should Japan dare recklessly to intercept the DPRK’s satellite, its army will consider this as the start of Japan’s war of reinvasion more than six decades after the Second World War,” the official Korean Central News Agency said today in an e-mailed statement. North Korea is also known as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Only last week Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada ordered his forces to shoot down any North Korean object entering his country’s airspace and deployed guided-missile units around Tokyo.

Japan, along with the U.S., China, South Korea and Russia, want to forestall North Korea’s plans to launch what the government in Pyongyang calls a “peaceful” satellite and refocus on efforts to end its nuclear program.

I gather that this country is still on Americas hate list.

AFAIK they are. They agreed to end the nuclear programs in return for oil which is a major factor in their country not only that but an end to sanctions but not much came from America.

As to the rest if America was gonna launch a missile and it was bombed by Russia or the other way around what would happen? They have a right to defend themselves.

    I don't believe it's a satellite, IMO there's a good chance it's a long range missile.

Even if it is a satellite it will still be launched using a launch vehicle similar to the TaepoDong 2.

    Wage war with what?

Have they seen the size of their Navy compared to the Japanese? How will they possibly make it across the water?

    War with Japan?

    Laughable.

Noth korea would simply be wiped off the face of the earth - not necessarily a bad thing (except for her innocent population which over the decades has become mis informed, impoverished and beaten into submission by a dicatator with a freaky penchant for 60s shades), they seem to have pi**ed off most of their neighbours at this stage, all they seem to do is to brandish outlandish politic rhetoric and try to destabilise the other countries around them.

If they spent a fraction of their military funds on their own economy they could probably turn their country into a much better place. Who in their right mind WANTS to invade such a place?

Latest Satellite images show it is probably a satellite. But again, if they can launch a satellite, they can launch an ICBM.

The cover has just been removed. Radars turned on. Launch is "imminent"

UPDATE: And its away. Passed over Japan.

North Korea's rocket launch is seen as "provocative" and is condemned.

They're posturing, for what is the question.

They've got a nuclear device, this launch has proven they've got the means to deliver it, whether they can tie the two together is another issue.

It strengthens their hand in future negotiations... classic cold war stuff.

I really don't understand North Korea and their mentality over developing nuclear weaponry. What are they trying to achieve? They haven't a hope militarily against their nieghbours, they will never be accepted as an important player in the region, so I don't see the point. Hopefully the people will revolt against the ruling elite someday, then maybe China/Japan/South Korea/US can help rebuild their country.
