    Hi
Does anyone know of a church in North Dublin or Meath area that is open to doing a church blessing for a couple getting married one of whom is a divircee. We have a priest willing to do it but need to find a church (catholic)

I know a bit about this cos I enquired about a blessing for ourselves - my partner is not Christian, and so just wanted a form of blessing (to keep my dad happy). This is what I was told:

You will have a VERY hard time as it is against Catholic laws (or catechism or whatever they are called) to bless:

    A) any civil marriage in a church and
    B) worse again for a divorcee to be blessed in a church - the Catholic Church refuse point blank to bless this as, as far as they are concerned it is bigamy, as the divorcee is still married in the eyes of the church.

Even a 'blessing' is apparently a misnomer - no Church is supposed to agree to this (some priests will but they are acting outside the rules of the Vatican in doing so). The catholic church only recognises Catholic marriage, and the giving of the marriage sacriment. If you are civilly married elsewhere then they will not bless such a union - they do not see you as married in the eyes of the church, therefore in their opinion they are blessing you to live in sin!

you may have found a priest to do it, but technically he is acting outside the rules of the Church, so I would seriously doubt you will find a parish priest willing to agree to let you use the church.

If you are just wanting a blessing (and obviously you are not so strictly Catholic cos you are marrying a divorcee) then why do you even need a church setting? what about a nice venue? My civil wedding is in Ardgillan Castle.

    Hi Jessie,

Did you ever get a church? Also could you give me the name of the priest who married you I would be very glad if you could do this for me as myself and my fiance are looking for a priest to bless our marriage as I am a divorcee. To date we haven't been able to find one.

    Rgds,
    J.
