It now seems that eircom webmail will be downloaded even if read on eircom site. Previously this would not happen. That is my experience anyway

imagine you have outlook express/windows downloading your mail from an eircom account

Before if you logged in to eircom.net webmail direct and read your mail on the eircom page that read mail would not download in to your outlook/WM

Now it does. It does for me anyway, and didn't for me before.

    sorry vague that ok?

At last eicon have changed and complied with the norm for mail servers. Before if you checked mail in webmail they moved it into a different status area and you couldn't then retrieve it via POP/IMAP
