Nagra 3 UPC and Sky

Not talking about anything illegal,As Some people may know today and tomorrow UPC are Changing on Sky Channels over to Narga 3 so that the Dodgy boxes wont work, Why apart from the Obvious, The Head of UPC has a Meeting with Sky in London Friday to Try and Convince them to let them Broadcast Sky on there Network, there has always been a rumour that Sky was going to pull the Plug on Upc well there is a Chance unless Sky are convinced about Nagra 3 is uncrackable if they are not if could see Upc will be without sky in Future.

On my life its not. A family Friend is the Head engineer With Upc Work and he was telling my Father on Tuesday.They are doing this with Dublin only at the moment then Waterford etc but Dublin is the Poirty at the momet (i dont know why).

This is ridiculous.

Virgin Media in the UK have far more subscribers than UPC do and the entire Virgin Media network is on Nagra 2 with no plans for an upgrade to nagra 3.

If SKY were really doing this then Im certain they would start with Virgin Media first!

Thats why they are Changin the Sky Channels to Nagra 3 to show Sky look, It works it wont be cracked bla bla bla now its more than likely wont come to Sky Plugging the Plug but the fact UPC need to convince Sky aint exactly a good thing.

Not even Virgin are still on Nagra 1, cracked over 10 years ago.

And there not just changing the sky channels, there changing them all to Nagra 3, they start with the low sub packages like porn, zee ect, then sports & movies and Finally General channels, its nothing to do with proving anything to BskB, there simply bringing there network upto there european standard.

So as was pointed out do you not think BskyB being an english company be more worried about virgins wide open system showing all sky channels to about 50x of irelands population

Does them rolling it out to a smaller area first as a test not make sense? I've no idea about the penetration of those dodgyboxes but maybe we have a higher rate over here.

Upc have a Figure of 1 in 5 people have dodgy boxes but they are not 100% sure could be more or less.

UPC will stop get any money from them at all now.

People have it all wrong.

NTL where running Nagra1 and Nagra2 at the same time.

The NTL boxes had cards that could only work on Nagra1 these have been replaced with cards that can work on Nagra1 Nagra2 and Nagra3.

UPC branded boxes have cards that work on Nagra2 these cards will be replaced soon too.


What is going on now is the Nagra1 streams are being turned off leaving only Nagra2.

When the UPC boxes have their cards replaced the whole network will move to Nagra3.

Nagra2 is very tricky this will be used on the network for a few weeks only during the rest of the card swaps for the UPC branded boxes.

Nagra3 will then be turned on in its 3 and half year history Nagra3 has never been cracked despite rumours that have all turned out to be lies.

The dodgy boxes are on their death bed in a critical condition.

Yes but many of these people will either go for Sky or many stick with NTL.

I think it's quite possible Sky may have helped with this too the stealing of channels hurt Sky also.

People saying they will cancel and go to Sky does not ring 100% true to me.

Apart from free to air channels you get nothing for nothing on Sky either.

If even 25% of these users go for the full NTL pack they will not lose a penny from this move.
